This all sounds very dramatic, hard to imagione much of a climbdown possible for either guy.

If Ditka is wrong on this one he'll come off looking like a senile fool.

Mike Ditka on Friday accused NFL Players Association director Gene Upshaw of breaking the law and said a Senate investigation into the union is imminent, all of which amused Upshaw.

Ditka has been critical of the NFL's care for former players who are physically or mentally incapacitated. But Ditka, who helps raise money for former players in need, took that criticism to a new level Friday on WMVP-1000 (AM).

''[Upshaw is] taking loans from the Players Association which are illegal,'' Ditka said. ''You cannot take any loan which [is] over $4,000 from the union.

''He's on the books for over [a] $100,000 loan, which is really a criminal offense.''

I would think he'd look mnore than just senile.

Crooked, corrupt are a couple of terms that springs to mind.

Really amazing to read this point / counterpoint from the article.

Upshaw darn well better not get his hand caught in the cookie jar....

With all the money brought in by the NFL, they certainly should do a much better job helping out those that are chronically injured, disfigured and mentally impaired as a direct result of playing the game. This is the dark side of the game and one would think the NFL would step up, pay for proper care and get it out of the news as soon as possible

They also could step up and help out with better pensions for the ex-players that made very little not so many years ago.

A corrupt union ? Who'd think of that ?

Ditka better be right or there could be a slander judgement in his future.
