Let's see if the right-wing condemns the cruel and sick words of conservative minister Pat Robertson with nearly as much zeal as they condemned the words of Jeremiah Wright, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, and other black religious champions.

Robertson: Haiti 'cursed' since Satanic pact - Ben Smith - POLITICO.com

The Rev. Pat Robertson, on his CBN broadcast today, offered his own explanation of the earthquake in Haiti:

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," he said. "They were under the heel of the French ... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'

"True story. And the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal,'" Robertson said. "Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another."

Out of curiosity, what is that photo about? Do you have a link to a story?

Last night as Coakley was leaving a fundraiser attended by pharma and insurance lobbyist, reporters were asking questions. One of Coakley's people knocked down a reporter from the Weekly Standard and roughed him up so he couldn't ask a question of Coakley.

at this link is the story from the reporter who was knocked over and a you tube of the dem thug:

We Report, We Get Pushed | The Weekly Standard

And a story from National review about the spin from the dems and later comments (backtracking) after the you tube vid of the assault went viral, also some background on the dem thug.

What a jerk Robertson is. Even if you could buy into Haitian's rejecting God's protection, how do you explain God allowing for the destroying of innocent people living there today that had nothing to do with any pact with the devil.....a long time ago?

As to the topic about Robertson, don't ever watch his show. I would imaging that his pitch was that if the Haitians were to become born again that God would treat them better then he asked for a donation.

From his frame of reference he thought he was giving them a path to avoid this stuff, pretty stupid. Earth quakes happen even worse stuff happens.

Anything in the path of this jet below (from a supermassive black hole at the center of this galaxy) will be vaporized by gamma rays, this event is destroying any planet/life that rotate into it's path, we'll have to ask Pat about this:

BTW a comment from National Review on Robertson's statement.

I watched a bit of news today, searched the net, and did not see any news on Robertson's statement. Shows just how far he's fallen. Don't even remember if he was one of the A-holes who blamed 9-11 on gays.

Robertson is what I refer to as a "bible bopper". He flings around his religion with anything but it's proper intentions in mind. Terrible thing to say. I'm just not sure Robertson is all that main stream enough, that his words matter. Maybe 20 years ago or something. Regardless, the guy is an imbecile. Terrible thing to say.

The guy is a total moron and always has been. I am not the only conservative to speak out against him.

Of course, I agree with the majority here. His comment is gross and, I might add, very un-Christian. He should be concerned with helping those people, no matter what wrong they've done.

    A religious whack job ...

If God really made such decisions children would never die.

    If he's right ... we're due a 7.5 quake in Washington DC.

This thread is certainly heartening. Glad to see such widespread and strong condemnation of Robertson's sick views.

That is just plain ignorance on Pat's part. Religion is self centered in nature. I am not at all surprised when zealots cast aspersions to advocate their own beliefs. It's troubling, but it's par for the course. Most but not all of these zealots have to perpetually find flaw in others in order to make their own views valid, it's insecurity and nothing else. Pity...

:agree: He's using this tragedy for self promotion. The lowest kind.

As someone who used to live in Va Beach and was treated to hearing more of his garbage than usual, this is pretty wild. He's made some crazy claims before but this one takes the cake. Think about it. He's saying that the Haitians made a deal with the devil to rid themselves of the French and then reasserts that it's a "true story". Maybe Americans made the same deal to rid ourselves of the British? Hm?

Dem Haitians made a deal with the devil!

Ridiculously stupid thing for him say and I'm surprised even given his psychotic "christian-right" rhetoric. Especially given the scope of the tragedy. But does anyone even consider this man significant anymore?

Have read over and over again about his views, some of which are blatantly racist, how can the right media continue to support him and his ministry??

By continuing to give him the national stage, the right media is complicit...they should have divorced himself from him a long time ago.. particularly as in this dumbed down world, people like him are associated with the Republican Party...and they need all the diversity they can garner right now.

Just think for $700.00 you can, oh never mind...
