Not unexpected. The last minute attempt to get something in trade for him was doomed since potential trading partners knew he would be released soon anyway.

Yup, thanks for the memories Corey. You had one great year and are in the Patriots record book, probably for a long time.

how does this affect the cap? Not sure how a release differs from a cut.

Good luck Corey and thanks for everything. I loved it when you threw the ball into the stand in Cincinnati.

Same thing. "cut" is just a colloquial way of saying "released".

There was no last minute attempt to trade him except in SWelkers ill-conceived thread here last night. They told his agent a week ago they would release him on the 2nd, and they did. We save $1M on the cap, or more if we choose to split the dead cap hit, and we avoid paying him $5.5M this year in salary and option bonus.

Thanks for being such a big part of winning a ring for the Patriots.

He may have been a little grumpy with the media at times (who don't understand what an insult it is to make insinuations about his age) but he acted with great dignity in his time here.

Of course, I wont be cheering for him from here on out but wish him good health.

You think they should have paid him $2.5M in salary and a $3M option bonus? That would have increased his dead cap hit to $6.5M after we traded him for what? A late day two pick at best?

Cheers to Corey, he had a hell of a season in 2005. I don't think they win it all w/o him.

But he wasn't the same in the last couple years due to injury and age.

    Disable Jersey

I've loved having Dillon as a member of the team and thank him for his performance both on the field and off it. He gave 100 per cent for the team. I'll never forget his performance in the last Indy play-off victory or the day that he came back against the Bills after Patrick Pass's hamstring fumble, despite clearly not being ready to play. Moreover, he behaved with great class last season.

    Thanks for the memories!

my understanding was we pay $4.4 if he was here, or $3.5 if he isnt? is that incorrect?
