Did Maneri get claimed off waivers?

Are the Kansas City Patriots going to do anything for themselves?

They had a great draft last year and, so far, their draft this year is yielding much more help than the Patriots draft (and that's not meant in any way as a slight to the Patriots draft, it's just that the Chiefs look to have found players capable of helping out a lot, and right away).

They've lost Tony Moeaki for the season already. . . .

Didn't know about that! With Cassel being injured to start (and could linger for the rest of the season) and a crap preseason, it may be another long season for KC and their fans!

They definitely fit the profile of a team that's likely to regress (easy schedule last year, hard schedule this year, tailed off at the end of the season, beaten handily by playoff-caliber competition). With another draft like last year's, though, they might be ok. Losing Moeaki is huge though... definitely the annual injury that makes fans of that team wish the preseason didn't exist.

I was thinking everyone would be going after Green Bay's cuts,,
Didn't they do pretty well last year with a ton of injuries to boot??

Patriots picked up Kerry Taylor for the Practice squad who was cut by the Packers.

Can't argue with that. The Patriots' draft was heavily future-looking with Solder, Mallett, Cannon, a 2012 1st and a a 2012 2nd. Pioli doesn't trade into the future that way, and mostly took readier players. (To be fair, on most teams Solder would be a "now" pick!)

An particularly interesting now-vs.-later is Rodney Hudson, the Chiefs' #55 overall pick, vs Marcus Cannon at #138. Hudson will obviously make the bigger impact this year, but he's very small -- 6'2" 298 after beefing up for the Combine -- and not particularly athletic. Cannon put up identical speed and quickness numbers and much better explosiveness (jump) numbers at 358 lbs. I'll be curious to see where both stand a few years down the line.

OK then, we're up to an even 10 Pats campers on other active rosters. Pretty extraordinary.
I count 12, but either number, it is even more than usual.

BB said of Yeatman that he planned on losing him, that he never cuts a player with the idea he will be put on the practice squad. He said it's just a bonus if the guy clears waivers.

That's boring. More fun to be a fan, where we can debate whether to keep a player on the 53 or put him on the practice squad.
