I wanted them to sign Sharper in the offseason. Maybe he wasn't ready to return. He played in the 3-4 in Texans and was pretty good vs. the run. Might be a pretty good pick up.

Yes, he played alot of ILB while he was with the Texans. He was very productive there too.

The Boston Herald today mentioned a few linebackers with inside experience which started with Jamie Sharper, ex Steeler Earl Holmes,Ronald Mckinnon formerly of the Arizona Cardinals it also mentioned Roman Phifer but he's been out the league two years and his strength is coverage also he's 38 now.
So it will be interesting to see what the Pats will do here.

I just read Reisss aid no LB tryouts yesterday..so if they are signing someone they are quite quiet about it... The Herald mentioned Orlando Ruff who had a tryout earlier int eh year...Sharper, Ronald McKinnen, Earl Holmes..as well as Phifer... It will be interesting to see who if any they take a look at...I hope they make a move soon..so they will have a few weeks to get acquainted with things BEFORE the Pats face a big time back...

The most logical choice would be Phifer. All he has to do is get into game shape. He's already familiar with what the Patriots do. At 38 years old it would be hard to imagine him being effective. Jr. Seau was the exception. The guy was in tremendous shape and played hard and fast as any other LB out there.

Phifer doesn't make a whole lot of sense, actually. He was always more of a coverage specialist linebacker, and not as great taking on blocks and playing in the phone booth. For a guy who runs around after tight ends and slot WRs, losing a step to age is a bigger deal.
