I think he is absolutely perfect for this team's scheme and fills a position of need. Patriots run a lot of "bend but dont break" zone schemes and McCourty is ideal in a zone system as "boundary setting corner"- meaning he plays the outside physcially and keeps everything to the inside and in front of him (w/ safety coverage over the top). From there he has fantastic closing speed to come up and stop the run or the short pass in front of him. He brings instincts and physicality- a major focus of this draft after the romping by the Ravens. All the Thursday night whiners looked at McCourty as just another corner, however, he offers a competely different style and skillset from guys like Butler, Bodden, and Whilhite.
