You know what's really funny. Sanchez beat the Patriots with Chansi Stuckey and Jerricho Cotchery in Week 2 of the 2009 season. He went 15/22 with one touchdown. Then again in week 2 of the 2010 season with Braylon Edwards and Cotchery, now Edwards was an upgrade to Stuckey. He went 21/30 with 3 touchdowns. Then AGAIN in the 2010 post season with the addition of Santonio Holmes. He went 16/25 with......oh yeah 3 touchdowns. AND he went 9-7 his rookie year, improving to 11-5 the following year. It's funny to see people make fun of him, it shows you just how naive people can be. This kid has gone to two straight AFC championships, he may not be talented enough to take control of an entire team but he was put into a good system. He is improving and to be honest he has gotten a better group of wide receivers, i'm not saying he will be MVP or anything but at the same time showing a tiny bit of respect wouldn't be the worst thing.

And Trent Dilfer has a Super Bowl ring.

Sanchez has shown flashes of brilliance, but he is way inconsistent and is lucky his defense keeps him in games. Last year the Jets won games they had no right winning since Sanchez sucked really bad for three quarters, but the defense kept the game in reach and Sanchez turned it on in the end. I give him credit for those fourth quarter comebacks, but he is the reason in many cases there was even a need for a fourth quarter comeback.

Another thing in his favor was that he was lucky that a lot of his passes to defenders last year were dropped. I think Sanchez led the league in dropped INTs by a wide margin.

Unless the Jets' defense comes back to 2009 form, he will need Plax and Mason to pan out. I am not counting on much for Plax due to his age, time away from the game, and the fact his skills looked to be declining before he went to jail. Mason could be a good #3, but he is at an age where he can hit the age wall fast and hard.

Sanchez is an average QB on a very good team. He may get to above average or great (I doubt he will ever be elite). Elite QBs can elevate the play of his receivers no matter their skill sets. Average ones can't. The Jets are gambling a lot on two old WRs in a critical third year for Sanchez. Sanchez needs to work on his consistency and having a #2 WR who will probably need the first month or two to get reacclimated to the NFL is not a good way to do it.

If you honestly believe that the collection of Jets wide receivers is better than their 2010 collection of wide receivers then we should probably stop at that point.

I do agree that people should stop writing off Sanchez's ability to improve. He's done well enough without being a star. That said, we all know the Jets are predicated on the run. Stop the run and force him to win the games opposed to game manage. This is where Haynesworth should make a big difference.

Oh I agree with you 100%! But you said it yourself, TRENT DILFER has a super bowl ring! The Jets defense is what won them most of their games BUT Sanchez got BETTER in 2010 not worse. So I don't understand why people think he will get worse in 2011. So if Dilfer has a super bowl ring, I don't see why people think it is unrealistic it is for Sanchez to have one.

The TEAM went to 2 Championship games and lost, and for the most part did that in spite of the QB.
I don't know how you can possibly call the slowest WR group in the NFL an upgrade/

    Brad Smith is eminently replaceable.

Braylon had some good grabs, but also his share of drops last year (as was to be expected from him). Plaxico is clearly an upgrade from Holmes, assuming he is anything close to what he was before prison.

Santonio Holmes is still a legit #1, and he re-signed.

The only question mark for the Jets is whether Mason can replace Cotchery. Personally, I have a lot of memories of Mason doing a lot of damage to the Patriots as a Raven. (So many freaking 8 yard curls that our corners playing 10 yards off the LOS couldn't stop... sorry, flashback!) If he is healthy, I believe he can.

This WR group isn't significantly worse than the Jets had last year, and has the potential to be better.

Maybe he improved, but really not by a significant amount to keep him from the bottom tier of QBs. He completed less than 55% of his passes. That is epically bad.

Dilfer had one of the best defenses in NFL history and 1300+ yard RB to make up for his suckitude. Now Sanchez is far better than Dilfer, but the Jets' defense is not the 2000 Ravens' defense and Shonn Greene has yet to prove he is a fulltime starter nevermind the RB that Jamal Lewis was in 2000.

Man, I hate the Jets. I don't like Derrick Mason and this gives me another reason to hate the jests

He won at least one game all by himself. Who replaces him?

According to Jet fans BEFORE he was not resigned he didnt drop passes last year. Plaxico hasnt played football (or walked free) in 2 years. He may not be an upgrade over me at this point.

His numbers are not even close to legitmate #1s

Mason is 37. Plaxico is old and off a 2 1/2 years away from football, and he wasnt much better than Edwards before that.
I don't know how anyone could honestly envision those WRs being anything but a huge step backward.,

Sanchez was a bottom 2 QB in his rookie season, and a bottom 5-10 QB last year. That's not exactly cause for champagne, especially since seeral of the players he passed/beat in season two were either stiffs to start with (Clausen) or players at the end of the line (Favre).

Sanchez is far better than Dilfer? Based on what?
Dilfer career vs Sanchez career so far:

    Comp % 55.5.....54.4
    TD/Int 113/129.....29/33
    QB Rating 70.2.......70.2

I think that WR corps is a question mark, and it can go either way. If Burress is back to being a quality receiver and Mason doesn't lose a step, it'll be better than last year's group. If Burress isn't back, or Mason loses a step, it'll be a different story.

We may not know the answer until the end of the season, if Burress takes time to get back up to speed.

Even though I don't like them, I respect the Jets as a TEAM, who despite an average qb, clownish coach, and a plethora of loudmouths, still managed to reach the AFC championship during the last two years and stopped our great run right in our home turf.

We can moan and groan for all we want that they 'sneaked' into the playoffs and that their stats are pathetic; bottom line is that they took advantage of the breaks that came their way and got a W, stats be damned.

Look forward for thrashing them every time we play them!

Even though I'm not a big fan....Prisco just had a nice line on Twitter:

PriscoCBS In Mason and Burress, the Jets have less speed outside than they did last season. Does that help Sanchez?

Frankly, if we were not going to go further than we did the last 2 years, its better than they got as far as they did on their wing and prayer, because it will make it more enjoyable to win it all again while they think they are supposed to.

I didn't post this thread to make fun of Sanchez but more of the fact that he has Holmes walking on a thin wire and 2 receivers in their mid 30s,1 of which has slowed down and one that has not done anything the past 2 Years except workouts in the prison gym and catching balls from fellow prisoners (not footballs lol)

The Jets will have to rely on the running game and Keller because you know the Pats and most teams will double cover Holmes.
