Dem's pick up a Republican seat. A taste of things to come?

    http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/dems-add-to-majority-with-cazayoux-win-in-la.-2008-05-03.html

House Democrats continued to expand their majority Saturday night after Louisiana state Rep. Don Cazayoux emerged victorious in a special election for retired Rep. Richard Baker’s (R) district.

The win comes two months after Democrats picked up their first seat of the year. In March, Democrat Bill Foster won the Illinois seat of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R). That seat, like the Louisiana contest, was in solidly Republican areas. President Bush carried the Illinois district with 55 percent and the Louisiana district with 59 percent in 2004.

Cazayoux benefited from a strong fundraising advantage over Woody Jenkins — $810,000 to $490,000 — with much of the help coming from national Democrats. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) spent $920,000 on the contest.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) only spent $440,000 on the race and Jenkins received less than $40,000 from GOP members.

This may be a continuous trend with Dems beginning to take over many republican held districts, both in the house and also in the Senate.

If so and coupled with a possible democrat in the White House it may signal a long long time before Republicans gain power again.

Obviously what the current administration is doing is attempting to put a winning democratic candidate for President into a very difficult situation when he or she takes office which could make him or her look bad in the eyes of the American public thus preserving the republican opportunity to regain control.

With a total majority I expect the Democrats to have great success and will reverse the tragedy that has befallen this country for the past seven years.

    IRAQ WAR AND VETERANS

I believe we need to change directions in Iraq and bring our troops home responsibly and with honor while continuing to focus on national security and winning the war on terror.

    IMMIGRATION

I am strongly against amnesty for illegal immigrants. America is a nation of immigrants, but we also are a nation of laws. In Congress, I will fight to secure our borders and work to crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers.

    ABORTION

I am pro-life. This is a position that my wife and I share and its rooted in my faith. In the legislature, I supported one of the strongest pro-life laws in the country and in Congress, I will continue my work to protect the unborn.

    2nd Amendment Rights
I strongly support the Second Amendment - it is a fundamental part of our Constitution. I own guns and hunt and believe we need to protect the gun ownership rights of law-abiding citizens. I am very proud to have an A rating from the NRA.

So a DINO gets elected and you guys a so excited.

This guy is more conservative than my US senator who is supposedly a republican.

Most Democrats would agree with all of those statements.

    1) Ending the war in Iraq and bringing the troops home is primarily a Democratic thought process. Bringing them home with honor makes sense. Republicans on the other hand will not even mention or discuss that option at this time.

    2) Democrats are strongly in favor of securing the borders and have mentioned many times that the employers of illegals are the ones that need to be prosecuted. The administration has fought having their ceo buddies charged.

    3) Democrats are not in favor of abortion. They are in favor of choice. Saying they are in favor of abortion is a tactic used by the religious right. Dems have always said that they prefer a woman not to have an abortion but in certain circumstances they believe it is the woman's right to make the choice rather than have government intervention.

    4) When the right to bear arms was decided in revolutionary times the public did not have the ability to purchase weapons with unbelievable automatic fire power. It would be my guess that if those type of weapons were available then, smarter minds would have restricted their usage too and placed a limit on what type of firearm a citizen could own.

I, a democrat, for one have no problem with the right to bear arms but I do have a problem as to what type of weaponry an average citizen is allowed to own.
Do we really need high powered semi automatic weapons to kill a rabbit or a deer?

This guy sounds like the Old Time Democrats I used to vote for, put a whole bunch of them like him in Congress and I might even "return".

Whenever I see Auntie Pelosi's Grinning Smirk on TV I have to wonder, "how did our country sink this low" the people that wrote and signed our constitution would have thrown her into the Potomic River, Daniel Boone would have given her to the Indians........
