We believe you are meant to serve the state.

Serving others in the private sector, you know, providing a service in a voluntary exchange in which one gets paid is, well, greedy.

We prefer public service in which the public pays for little or no service. Other than interference in people's daily lives.

Public sector jobs are paid for by taxes, which the last time I checked were not voluntary.

I may try an experiment in which I stop paying taxes. I wonder how long it will take for the black-clad men with night vision goggles and automatic rifles to come and pay a visit.

But first they always shoot the family dog.

I love the public servant talk.
People spending thousands on the local level, millions on the state level and hundreds of millions on a national level to win jobs that pay $50k to $250K ... yup, public service at its best.

My best friend, a lawyer with a DC federal agency, is slated to retire at $125K a year. He is also in the Army reserves.

"Rent-seeking," anyone? Rent-seeking behavior: A Glossary of Political Economy Terms - Dr. Paul M. Johnson Like his dad, he's a bureaucratic entrepreneur.

He gets every other Friday off. And his boss takes a day or two off every week in addition.

It's amazing how many of my West Point buddies are similarly engaged. Instead of Duty, Honor, Country it seems to be Distinguishment (if that's a word), Service, and Early Cushy Retirement.

The country is screwed with that kind of attitude. China will dominate, if not Russia.
