They have turned the spendthrift Republicans--from 2000 to 2005 discretionary spending rose faster than at any other time since the Great Society--into the Sane Party in regards to the economy?

The market is climbing, the housing sector is stablizing, by most measures the economy is improving. Many believe that Obama's policies have helped us avert a depression. Republicans have no track record to stand on. Hoover and Bush brought us the worst economic crises of our time; Reagan and Bush tried to hide their economic mismanagement through deficit spending. Obama is actually trying to straighten things out, and when he succeeds, the Republican Party will be even further marginalized. Republicans can't argue with Obama's success to date, so they go back to arguing against deficits, something they were largely quiet about for most of the last 25 years. (in part because they couldn't make that argument during the Clinton years.) Once again, the Republicans are disingenuous.

    That's Republicans for ya.

Create a giant mess, blame Barney Frank even though you wielded near absolute power during the years it materialized, and then bad mouth the people working to clean up your mess.

What people like State won't mention is that we still don't know how the present government would handle spending in a non emergency. We can however, conclude that Republicans spend like drunken sailors in normal economic times because that's exactly how they did spend in the quite normal economic times of the recent past.

The democrats are up to their necks in this too. Yeah maybe republicans were alcoholics but the dems kept offerring up drinks and said "drinking is good, keep em flowing." "Giving out bad loans?....I'll not only drink to that I'll cry about it if you don't give our more"

This is like a sad comedy. Republicans & Democrats are each knee deep in blame, for the problems we have today, yet sheep from both sides think their joe is the savior over the other. One party spends us into the grave, and the other makes sure to backfill over us. What's the difference between either administration when it comes to spending? Try nothing.

What's really fun (as long as you just get some time away and come back,) is watching the Republican tantrums, which is pretty much the only way you can characterize their behavior since January.

First they start this annoyathon born of denial: "He's not really an American... they'll throw out the election result...la la la I'm not listening he's not really president la la la..."

Then people see Republicans saying they hope the president fails -- to get best results for the country??? As in, they hope people are out of work? They hope there is no recovery? They hope the US declines on the world stage?

The minute they lose the presidency, they start talking secession?

There seems to be no awareness among Republicans that they're being serial idiots... outside the echo chamber, this looks like a bunch of guys who overreached when they were in power, throwing a hissy fit because they lost. Like, it's six months into the next administration, and they're still trying to steal the election.

Then when they can't win on subject matter for their dark lords in the insurance industry, they tell us that health care reform -- any health-care reform, mind you, they'd make the argument -- is Logan's Run.

I think it's good to have a loyal opposition, and if we have to settle for a disloyal one, well, it's better than no opposition I suppose.

But jeez, you guys think you're going to actually get back in the White House like this?

Do you have any idea how funny this looks to normal people?
