The House Democratic Caucus spent more than $500,000 in taxpayer money over the past five years for its annual retreats at resorts in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

On Thursday, Democrats will head to the Kingsmill Resort and Spa in historic Williamsburg, Va., for the three-day planning powwow. The resort boasts multiple championship golf courses, a full-service spa and six restaurants.

Individual lawmakers pay for most of the expenses related to retreat lodging through their campaign committees, but the Democratic Caucus subsidizes some of the costs for what aides consider “official business” — to the tune of nearly $100,000 each year, according to a Democratic aide involved in retreat planning.

For instance, the caucus picks up the hefty transportation tab, as well as the thousands of dollars in expenses each year for guest speakers, food and entertainment, according to financial disbursement records.

    Selective, aren't we FreeTeddy?

    From the same article:

".......Democrats and Republicans have criticized each other for the way each party pays for its annual retreat. Republicans huddled at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va., last week. The Congressional Institute, a nonprofit that pays for activities at least in part through dues from lobbyists, subsidizes the GOP retreat. Republicans also allow members of the institute’s private sector advisory board, many of whom are lobbyists, to travel to the resort each year for a dinner with the members.

Democrats don’t allow lobbyists at the retreat, but Republicans criticize the use of taxpayer dollars for expenses for retreats at resorts, especially during the economic downturn......"

I was going to type something similar. As if republicans don't do the same things. Gubmit is broken. I just read that congress increased it's individual members "petty cash" fund by $93,000 per. Nice.

The whole system is broken, to focus on any party right now is absurd.. they both waste taxpayers money.

    The hypocrisy is sickening...

Here's a follow-up from the Wash TImes, Obama is taking AF One, while we pay for the rest of the DNC to travel by AMTRACK with helicopers overhead of the train......

And these are the very same people that are dogging private businesses about thier spending habits?

I believe you know better, if you are a federal employee involved with security, AF1 goes because it is essentially a command and control center.. just the same as when GWB went to the UN to address the delegates.. I do not believe another form in this day and age is advisable.. there was a recent special on Nat Geo.. very interesting about this whole scenario.. btw they send two of these out on every trip.

If he were in Va. and there was a nuclear attack as Cheney is predicting.. he would look pretty stupid along with this country.

No, the Dems waste tax-payers' money; the Repubs waste lobbyists' money. There's a difference.

Most of us recognize that they're two factions of the same corporate entity... while others keep up the turrets-like mantra that everything is the Dems' fault.... Dismissing the pure evil of their party of choice at every turn...

    Rinse, repeat...

I don't see ANYONE on this list who says "everything is the Dem's fault", at least not nearly as much as we heard in the last presidential campaign where every single opening line by Obama, Hillary and all the other Dems was: "America has never had a worse 8 years than under Geo W Bush." Every single time the Dems opened their mouths, there it was, the first thing out of their mouths.

    Karma's a birch, ain't it.

But haven't you espoused the same old tired youtube compilation video that blames Frank and Dodd... it is all part of the equation... you have already exhonerated George and his minions.

What I have posted on the utterly failed CRA legislation is a mole-hill compared to the mountainous 24/7 diet of "eight years of failed leadership by Geo Bush" the world was force-fed by the Dems these past three years.

So look for even more youtubes and reminders of the failed Democrat policies, like the CRA. Bush and McCain both tried to stop the melt-down before it happened, but every time they spoke up about it they were shouted down by the Dems.

Karma's a birch. But, nothing can stop it.

Here is your first clue, anything on You Tube is edited to fit the intent of the creator.. thus it is all bogus, You Tube is fine for a non edited piece, but to rely on this type of information shows your lack of inquisitiveness and intelligence.. Youtube compilation stuff is probably the least reliable information on the internet.

I see. So Brit Hume is a liar. FoxNews is lying. Their ratings must be in the dumpster then, eh, because they're all such "liars"?

Give us a call when you return to earth.

Here is your first clue Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Katie Couric, NYT all lie sometimes and anything taken out of context becomes a poison pill.. the challenge is to search through all the partisanship and find the actual truth...

WH and Greenspan "warnings" were a pony show to save face... You'll notice that for all their bluster, your heroes never brought the bill to the floor for a vote... Says so write there in your state propaganda network report...

Meanwhile, Boy King was doing everything under the sun to eliminate oversight, compromise the SEC, and install his intel czar to shield favorable Wall St. banks from accountability....

Once again... Some of us recognize they're two crooked factions of the same corporate entity.... Then there are people like YOU, Fog, who pretend the religious "right" is infallible and does nothing wrong.
