DeAngelo Williams message for Maroney

When brady comes back, we'll be a pass 1st.. And a lot of those runs were from delay handoffs from shotgun formation.. Teams were playing the pass..

Exactly so we can pop runs in there to gain yardage and keep the D honest. I don't think this offense is all pass all the time, you need balance to be successful in the NFL, whether it's from the shotgun, a single back look or a more traditional run set. Maroney can really make this offense scary in an "ace" type formation we run lots of if he can stay healthy and be a smarter player. Single back offenses create big match-up problems for defenses. LB's are forced to cover WR's in passing routes and S's are forced to come up and stop the run. We have the quick WR's who run great routes, we have a balanced TE in Watson (we do need one more and Thomas to step as well giving us more options), and we have intelligent OL and oh yeah a QB that can read defenses and make safe throws under pressure. If Maroney can give us the homerun option that Kevin Faulk is not, Faulk is really effective in this offense in his role, by playing smarter football and becoming a more effective blocker he can get more opportunities to get in there and make himself a solid contributor and hopefully a star. He certainly has the athletic ability and shiftiness to be effective in this type of offense and that's why the Pats drafted him.

LoMo would be better suited with a team that using a FB.. Someone he can follow.

That's what he had in college but teams aren't running that often any more, save for short yardage and goal line. He has the skills necessary to be successful in a one-back or single set back offense.

"I loved DeAngelo Williams coming out of college in 2006 and badly wanted him ahead of Maroney at #21. Thought he was a tougher more aggresive runner who would do well in the Pats' scheme. Then it looked like it was a bust his first 2 years and I figured I had been mistaken. It was nice to see him do well this year. Carolina looks to be well set up at RB between Williams and Stewart."

DeAngelo did not light things up at first and that was on one of the reasons they did draft Stewart.
The sports talk the day of the draft wanted Maroney more!

Second, Williams problems were injuries.. LoMo has injury concerns PLUS a lack of vision where to hit the hole.

I agree. Its his inability to identify and quickly hit the hole which is why I have given up on him. I consider him behind BJGE on the depth chart.

Agree with you 100% but I just haven't seen it from LoMo yet..

it's a shame how so many people have such short memories. they seem to forget what he did for the patriots in 2007.

maroney was a huge factor for the playoff run in 2007. he had a big 3rd quarter against jacksonville and was a major factor in the AFCCG against the chargers. he enabled the patriots to control the clock and run the ball effectively when the passing game wasnt working.

maroney has a rare combination of speed and power. he's also running behind a great offensive line. this thought that he lacks the vision and ability to identify the hole is ridiculous. watch some of the tape from the 2007 playoffs and you will see how quickly he shoots through some holes. he also has the ability to pick up extra yards with his jukes/moves and playmaking ability.

he was HURT very early on this season. when you are playing with a bum shoulder you have a tendency to avoid contact and dance around a little behind the o-line.

i give the guy credit for trying to play through the pain at first but then realizing it was best to heal up and come back stronger and healthier next year.

i think next season he will come back strong and silence his critics. he's going to be a big contributor, however i do think belichick will still use morris and BJGE along with faulk a decent amount so that maroney has fresh legs for the playoffs. he's only going to be 24 next season, he is way too young to "give up" on. he's by far our best running back in my opinion.

I've not given up on LoMo yet. It is frustrating to see, sometimes, him dancing around in the backfield. I mean he hits the hole slower than Rafael Palmeiro waiting for his viagra to kick in. That said he knows a heck of a lot more about the position than we do so I'm sure he has his reasons.

Maroney dances because the patriots suck at Zone blocking, and for some reason insist on using it with him.

I'm not convinced we've ever seen maroney healthy (aside from a couple of weeks of his rookie year)

Encouraging words from a great back.

I hope to one day have the same awesome feeling about Maroney that I had first seeing him in 2006 as Dillon's compliment.

I remember being so excited about his future after his 27 yard run against the Bills in his first game in the league.

Me too. He is great in the open field....didn't shy away from contact...and would go out of his way to stiff arm a defender.

I think get getting him out in the flat...maybe some bubble screens, etc will result in several big plays. If you made me run up Mankins's ass 19 times a game, I'd hesitate too!
