    Some really interesting stuff - helps when you have a coach who actually gives some insight into personnel. (Not that I don't appreciate tight-lipped BB.)

    One of Pees's most straightforward responses has to do with Eugene Wilson and how, in the past, they've tried him at CB and safety, but have not done so this year. Apparently in the off-season Pees and BB talked about it, and wondered if moving Geno around the last couple of years ended up "diluting" him a bit - Pees evens mentions that Geno had played better back in 2004 when he was only a safety, and since then hasn't been all he can be. They've decided to stick Geno at safety and see if that helps his game.

    About as informative and straight an answer as I've heard out of ANY Patriots staff member since Belichick arrived.

    As much as I respect BB being the only spokesman for the pats on the field, it is nice to hear from these guys.. remember when we never knew much about Crennel and Weiss until they went to the Superbowls?? His comments were pretty good.

    Ya I was surprised to see such an insightful PC, I wonder if Bill had a fit watching it.

    Perhaps they might consider applying this same logic to Meriweather.

    P.C. = personal computer?
    P.C. = printed circuit?
    P.C. = political correctness?
    P.C. = .... press conference!

    I wasn't sure from the thread title WHAT this thread was going to be about, but I was happily surprised. Yes, Dean Pees strikes me as a very straight shooter, the kind of guy you'd like to go fishing or play golf with.

    One factor that hasn't gotten much play on this board, at least recently, is the fact that for the first time in three years we are going into a season with the same coordinators we ended the previous season with. Not only that, but the two guys we have are growing in experience and comfort in their roles. That can only bode well for the season. In fact, three of the last four times that happened, we won the Super Bowl!

    #87 Jersey

    I half-expected to see BB burst onto the podium and shove Pees away

    Well, according to Pees, it looks like they are. Pees says that they hope Merriweather can be a CB at this level. This doesn't seem to be a just versatility thing, this looks to be an audition to see if he will be Asante's eventual replacement.

    I found the "diluted" quote interesting also. Everyone has a tipping point, a point to which they can no longer acquire, retain, and apply knowledge without performance or previous knowledge suffering. Perhaps that is true with Wilson and learning two different positions. The assignments, coverages, adjustments, mental and kinesthetical wear and tear could have been too much for him. I'm not calling him dumb or anything like that. Goodness knows he has accomplished far more as an athlete than I could have ever hoped, but perhaps he doesn't have the versatility of a AD or Vrabel. If this helps him to become the player he was his rookie year, the hard hitting safety that had wr's trembling going over the middle and it helps the pats bring home lombardi #4, so be it!

    Amen to that. Would love to see Eugene settle back in to how he was back in the day.
