He re-signed for 1 yr. I would have liked for the Pats to pick up Roth (over Carter) and Goldson but looks like they are going for older, cheaper alternatives.
I'm sort of suprised the Patriots would consider another safety.
The current roster includes:
Brandon Meriweather
Patrick Chung
James Sanders
Josh Barrett
Matt Slater (pure ST, you could call him WR)
Sergio Brown
Brandon McGowan
Six or seven safeties who have all been on this team.
Probably only room for four of those.
Barrett was very highly thought of, and the Patriots sort of played sneaky to pick up another team's injured player. He has great size and speed. Brown played great on ST. McGowan was good in TE coverage.
The roster seems stacked.
Bill could be still concerned that Sanders, McGowan & Barrett
(and Lockett, too, but there's no way he makes the team, anyway)
have yet to take the field, so there's not as much healthy depth
at Safety as it appears. That's also true of other postions, of course.
