Senate hopeful of the day: Curt Schilling - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe

Add another name to the growing list of pols and would-be pols eyeing a run for Edward M. Kennedy's Senate seat: former Red Sox ace Curt Schilling.

That's right, Mr. Bloody Sock himself told NECN's Brad Puffer in an interview today that he has been "contacted" about a possible Senate run and has not ruled it out.

"I'm not going to divulge the discussions, but I've been contacted by people whose opinion I give credence to and listen to, and I listened," Schilling said.

The first time I remember hearing Curt Schilling and political office together was just after the Steroid hearings in Congress. Still, its a joke IMO. One half of Red Sox nation thinks he talks too much already and he hasn't even started running for anything yet.

30 years old, US citizen for at least last nine years, and resident of the state they will represent....anything else is up to the voters to determine.

    i did laugh.

anyhow, it's sad watching a sports hero of mine go through this process. he's so dyed-in-the-wool religio-right wing, it's creepy. ...

seriously, he's such a hero in this region, why can't he win? scary.

imagine if Mass became a red state?

He would be an interesting candidate, not sure if he is primary fodder or if he has enough credibility to do it seriously... not sure of his educational background and if many of his views are reactionary or thought out..

Besides he is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, so he has to suck....

    .

Schill would make ten times the Senator that Kennedy ever was, Kerry too, for that matter.

If an absolute CLOWN like Al Franken (stein) can get elected, then a relatively much nicer and far more decent guy like Schilling ought to be elected by simple affirmation. Jim Bunning did well representing Kentucky; Schill would do even better representing the Bay State. He has excellent values and a great work ethic.

You never know here. Remember Ed Brooke? But this is a racist, Democrat state so that couldn't have happened. I just don't think we could handle the sheer verbosity of a pompous azz like Schilling. Thanks for the bloody sock. This isn't Minnesota.

Besides, I though he lived in New Hampshire?

Just heard the Schill on EEI. Hemming and hawing, talking crap (I swear he takes 15 minutes to get to one point- guess that alone would qualify him), ...

He actually said that he thinks Mass is the second most corrupt state in America behind Illinois (guess he's leaving out LA, CA, NV, and FL) and made us sound like a backwater sh!thole. But he wants to be our Senator! Supposedly the US Senator has a lot to do with cleaning up political corruption as if he will be able to do anything about the Dem monopoly here from Washington. He has no clue how the political system as a whole works.

Then he agrees with The Forehead that his supposed lack of qualifications can be negated by the example of Al Franken. Then he says the status quo needs to be changed (sounding like Obama). What a dope!

I wish there were more qualified Republicans that could run here. I wish there were more Greens and Libertarians and Independents. I don't think Schilling deserves to be our US Senator. I'd vote for Romney before him. His mouth would be entertaining to listen to, though. Kind of like passing a car crash on the highway...morbid curiosity.

If Schilling were to run, there would be some disgruntled MLB player who would spill the beans about some indiscretions he has encountered during his MLB career... he is not very well likes by many pro baseball players.

He runs the risk of tarnishing his shiny image... he is what he is an ex baseball player who tends to be a lot pompous. No one even knows about much of what he stands for except he supported McCain, and what he says on WEEI... but people want to elect him by affirmation and without scrutinizing his credentials and his points of view.

Personally if he were running in my State would want to know a whole bunch more than the idealized view of the right... need a bit more than "Schilling good" before I would cast my vote.

This would be the perfect trump card for the nepotism rich Kennedy clan. For thirty years Ted has sucked off the public teat. How perfect would it be to be replaced by the all encompassing power of Red Sox nation. He's obviously more qualified than Ted, he's not a booze bag and hasn't man slaughtered anyone!!!!

Obviously, it worked for Ted all these years.
