According to Scout.com, the Cowboys may have decided AV is not worth his asking price. They appear to be pursuing someone else...

I'm beginning to dislike Adam's stance. He just wants his money. Doesnt seem to care where from.

If he comes crawling back after all the other clubs reject his monster demands then I hope we've taken our 'highest contract ever for a kicker' deal off the table. If we can do without Willie we can do without Adam.

I don't know why people even thought the Cowboys were interested in a bidding war for Vinatieri. Parcells told the media weeks ago that his advice to Adam would be to stay in New England. Doesn't sound like something the Tuna would say if he were hot to trot on throwing piles of bling at Mr. Vinatieri.

IMO, Mr. Vinatieri has been jerking the Pats around on his contracts for four years. He just looking for the bling and would sing with an Arena League team if they offered him a dime more than the Pats.

The shame is that Vinatieri is so committed to free agency now that he almost has to sign with another team, even if it's for less that the Pats offer. That's the problem with this whole free agency mindset and why you have to assume that, once a player decides to become a free agent, he's gone no matter what. The agents spend two years priming the player to think their current team is "disrespecting" him.

Very good post, I agree 100%. I never thought of it myself but your right i see it happen all the time

Just read Brad Blank's article on Given that Borges published today. Now, Givens may have made the best decision, but his head was spinning so fast that he made the decision because he saw some yahoo in an Eddie George jersey and thought it was an omen? A frickin omen? Cut me a break.

That's no way to make decisions. Meanwhile the agents are at home in their offices while the players fly around the country getting themselves more and more lathered up.

well

Swallow your pride AV and come back to the pats---we don't care as long as you are trotting out onto the field with the game on the line next january!

Is it just me or did last year seem like an omen that Adam is on the way down and out? I know hes our kicker but it just seems like last year his progress started to decline moreso.

His kickoffs were much better, he has missed FGs before, so I'm not too worried about his production if he re-signs.

Box -
How can you say that Adam's kick-offs were much better? Because he had 10 Touchbacks? On average, his kicks were a half yard below his career average.

Adam, last year, averaged 62.4 YPK while his career average fell to 62.9 YPK.

Just my eyeball's perspective, the opponents seemed to make the catch around the goal line instead of the 6 or 7 I remember from 2004. But, statistics don't lie. :p

Yes, Statistics can lie. But I still remember plenty of Adam's kicks falling between the 5-15 yard. And, unfortunately, his YPK avg says that the opponents typicall y got the ball between the 7 and 8 yard line.

I would be all for paying Adam 3.5 million if his kick-offs were like Morten Andersen's. That guy averaged over 66 YPK and was in double digit TBs for quite a bit on his career. OH, and he had a 79% career kicking average.

Well, we can just look forward to a nice young leg to keep things interesting this year.

Since when can we believe anything that Parcells says? I think Adam will sign with another team IF there is a $300,000 - $500,00 difference or a hefty bonus.

He doesn't strike me as being a stupid man. He does know that he can make up a "small" difference in endorsements in this area.

I kind of think he is jerking the team around..NOT really good..and what hwc said about agents and free agency is so so true!! Gimme a big break about that..go for the bling....
One thing that was talked about was the amount of money per year...2 mil as opposed to 3.5mil...over a 65% differential..way way too much...and as ponted out..If they are paying him this much and in a year or two his kickoffs are even worse, the team may have to bring in a KO specialist..another roster slot and more money. I do think that is something to consider in all of this. Yes, I would like to have him back..but NOT at the money he is talking about. Yes, he may take another deal with another team..if it is less than the Pats deal..we KNOW its more with him.

Vinatieri is in Green Bay tonight. If they offer him the same deal the Pats did, he'll take it and then whine to the media that he's glad to be with a team that wants him. These guys are so predictable.

If Dallas doesn't sign Josh Brown, I wouldn't mind him.

I think it was a bad sign for him when Longwell went to Minnesota. Maybe he is getting bad advice from his agent or maybe he doesn't want to stay here. The longer this goes on the more bizarre it gets. I think Parcells was being sincere when he told Adam to stay here! Especially since BP was the one who brought Adam into the league!

Vinateri has been desperate to get out of New England for several years. I have no idea what his problem is. It doesn't make any sense that he should be jerking around the team like he has, but it's been evident since last offseason that he's been counting the days until he's gone.

I am glad I am not the only one who is getting that vibe from Adam. I don't get his problem either. The fans have always been good to him, he has a coach that says there is no other kicker he wants on that field for him, he has off the field endorsements...... I don't get it, unless he has a domestic issue like Manny does.....;)
