I mean look at what he has done to this point of the season? he has maintained the teams level while all around him are injures.

1st to the OLine, then all his RB's, Moss is dinged up, not to mention the Defensive injuries that are forcing Cassel to led the offense down the field and score each possession.

should he be in the argument?

    Not quite yet.

But if he has, say, another three or four games like yesterday's, I could see it.

Look I want Tommy Boy back, don't get me wrong, but perfomance wise up to this date, it is similar to the year Grocery Boy Warner Had during the regular season

Patriots went 6-0 on the way to the division and playoffs in 2001 and Brady didn't get a sniff. It's a regular season media based and stats driven award and far liklier to go to someone like Favre for turning the JETS fortunes around or one of the Manning boys for overcoming adversity or the defense of SB jinx or Kerry Collins for the Titans season. Heck they were touting Brees until the realized he's not a real difference maker on his own team. Should probably go to Brady again in absentia for parity allowing parity to flourish in the league...

Yes, Cassel "could" win the AFC MVP. However, unless we win the division, the MVP will likely go to Favre (as it should).

true but that team was view differently...they were never given much of a chance even as they continued to play well...Matt is playing under the pressure of last season and the pre-season polls that had the Pats as SuperBowl contenders

add in the lack of a RB, the early season OLine issues with injuries and the fact he does not have the defense Tom had in 2001 and he needs to be in the running

I do agree that all the "genuflecting" media will give it to Lord Brett but I do think Matt should be a consideration

If the season ended today, perhaps not, but if he continues to be lights out and the team goes 11 - 5, 12 - 4, he'll have to be in the discussion.

I would eat my left shoe if Cassel wins the MVP the year after Brady won it. :)

never called him stave young, hell never called him Tom Brady

all I was doing is mentioning how well he is doing and how he should be in the conversation for the way he has handled the whole ascension to starting NFL QB

He won't win - the media is self-justifying and without enough media "momentum" (a completely self-created artifice) it won't happen. Right now he might be team MVP, though, with Moss, Welker, and Wilfork in contention.

NY media, enough said, it's unlikely he will get a sniff, but a few performances like yesterdays especially against the steelers, who knows

Dude, brady had to set the all time record for TDs and lead a 16-0 season to win the MVP. Just goes to show what herculean feats a Patriot has to accomplish to win the MVP in this Patriot hater league.

If Cassel is flat out dominant the rest of the way, the Pats finish 12-4 and have a first round bye, he'll be in consideration. But even all that would be consideration and nothing more. He's not winning MVP, the body of work isn't as great. If he played like this from the beginning, maybe.

On top of going 12-4, he would need to set multiple records along the way i.e. 2-3 touchdown games, 300+ yard/games. Its unlikely unless Favre returns to his old intercepting ways and the Jets falter.
