NO matter what side of the spectrum you are on, I think we can all agree that our country is f-ed up. High unemployment, budget deficits, pollution, rising costs of food, gas and other necessities...etc.

If you discount weekends and holidays there are 260 work days each year.
Congress works 52.6% of a work year.

    Just when DOES Congress work?

Should we demand that these slackers actually WORK?

How many of you would keep your job if you showed up 52% of workdays?

    Final Counts:

    Full working days – 137
    Travel days – 25
    Half days – 29
    RECESS DAYS – 90
    Final Tally: 137/365
37.5% of the year is spent with a full day of working.

Whne looking at the amount of damage they do perhaps they should be in session 1 month per year. And cut their pay to reflect that.

Yet they all get paid well and they all get great bennis and they work less then the rest of us, its all our faults thou for allowing them to do it, no ones fault but our own.

Maybe someday people will stand up and start doing the right thing......:rocker:

And who do you think gives them large amounts of money to get elected? So that they can do damage? They are all sellouts...but big corps and big bizz is the problem and will always be the problem.

Good people can't get elected, because our system is broke and our people are broke not in the sense of money but in the sense of their thinking, they want someone who tells them nice things, things they want to hear rather then what they need to hear.

Congress, due to its ineptitude and inability to get anything done is probably better off on the golf course.. its contentious attitude and classic gridlock has rendered themselves the laughing stock of the world.

Nobody's life, liberty or pursuit of happiness is safe when congress is in session..

They truly are the worst. But until we get the money and greed out of it, and turn it from a career job and make it a public service (term limits for everyone), it will remain as such. We are to blame as we are the voting public, but with the options we have had i hold us only partly to blame.

Doesn't the time spent figuring out how to vote count as work? Do lawyers only work in court? Does Tom Brady only work when he's on the field and the clock is running?

Exactly. I think the "days worked" can be a little misleading. If they're talking about days in session, and not including days spent reading, researching, or writing legislation to present, or that is presented, then the point is empty. I don't doubt they spend a lot of time doing nothing, or campaigning, but they do have to do work outside the chamber so to speak.

Of course, according to someone who will not be named, they do have to vote on, and pass couple thousand page legislation, so they can learn what's inside it. So maybe they should change the rules, so they can stay in session longer, in order to read the bills out loud, word for word. :D

Think you are idealizing the process somewhat, that is what the staff do.. the congressmen spend a lot of time fundraising, pandering and promising stuff.

Prior to last year John Boehner managed to squeeze in 119 rounds of golf.. nice if you can do that. How many people with a full time job can manage to play 119 rounds with the variables of winter and being from the north thrown in.
