I guess they should all have a loudspeaker in the grille that plays "Hybrid car coming! We love the environment! We're better than you! Hybrid car coming!"

Play music like the Ice Cream Man, if we were allowed to create our own warning to play mine would be "Get The F-ck Out Of The Way"

What a bunch of morons. Hey, lets not worry about the high price of fuel, the effects that fuel has on the environment (usage/refining), purchasing fuel from questionable sources, etc, etc. No, no, lets focus on those hybrids that are too damn quiet.

I think we can all agree on that.

Our oil problem could be solved very quickly between hybrids and drilling more of our own oil. But . . . no . . . stupid Congress can't have that. They need to keep making stupid new laws to try to keep us dependent on them.

A Paul very quick to jump all over WW 83,over anything he posts, however you post something from an obscure blog you probably linked from Drudge, did not do your homework and come up with a very disengenuous title of the thread..

Never gave it much thought, but an interesting bill HR 5734, introduced by D-Townes and R-Sterns.. 15 others sponsored.. all it is doing is authorizing the Dept of Trans to study it and if so come with a solution..

Anecdotally was at a traffic light and a electric scooter pulled up next to me, scared the crap out of me as I did not see it coming.. it is an issue, not sure how big but something to think about.

The Stanford Geeks have come up with a solution already.. called the Pedestrian Awareness Noise–emitting Device and Application, so probably no need for a DOT study.. common sense folks.

It's not an issue other than for those who love regulation. You'd get used to it. Or we could put noise generators on electric vehicles and look like the total morons I'm starting to think we are.

How do you figure that, cuz?
    http://www.manufacturing.net/News-Are-Hybrid-Cars-A-Danger-To-Pedestrians.aspx?menuid=

And no, it wasn't something I saw at Drudge, and wired isn't really and obscure blog, AND what exactly was disingenous about the thread title? Congress feels hybrids are too quiet, which poses a danger to the blind and to bicycle riders. Explain in detail how my thread title was wrong.

PS--I read about a dozen different sources before I posted it. ;):D

I know you're desperate to "get" me...but try again some other day.

Go read post #1 again, it is disingenuous no doubt in my mind, you intended to inflame something relatively benign and make it into something that it is not.. I do not favor many more regulations, but not sure how you protect those who depend on their ears more than their eyes..

Considering that post #1 is a quote from the wired blog, along with my own  opinion...how was it disingenuous?

There's a bill introduced in congress to force the DOT to study how to "solve" the "problem"...what was wrong with it?

Again--I know you want to "git" me, but I don't think you'll be able to do it here. IMO all you're doing here is making yourself look bad and entertaining me. :singing:

Last comment must move on life is way too short:

Title of this thread congress feels hybrids are too quiet=dangerous

The bill, HR 5734 is to authorize the DOT to study the issue and if a problem come up with solutions, this originated from blind folk and cyclists not hearing cars..

The issue is not congress feels hybrids are too quiet or dangerous, it is about is there a problem and should there be a greater effort to protect those cannot hear from quiet cars..personally do not give a rats ass about the whole thing, but your thread was innacurate, particularly as you have appointed yourself as the correct police on this board.. not sure anyone agrees, but your view of your role here is a tad inflated.

So roll your eyes and giggle with your idiotic emoticons, it shows where you are emotionally....

Okay, so how about this quote from the AP story about it?

Again, what was wrong with my thread and or title? They think they're too quiet. They want to figure out how to make them "safer", because they feel they pose a danger.

And my idiotic emoticons? That's nice...who put them in? Ian?

I just had a flashback. When I was a kid we were walking in Boston on a side street. A car was parked on the sidewalk, and without even thinking I stepped out onto the road only to be yanked back by my father as a car whizzed by. Which brings up a question, can you hear an approaching petroleum fueled car in the city?

    ( where you've been, vacation?)

On a related note ... 2 of my kids 21 and 22 are into fixing up their cars. That always includes a new exhaust ... for performance and sound. Sound being the key compenant there. So, I asked them ... what happens when most cars are electric ... will they have a fake exhaust with CANNED SOUND ... :p

They just looked at me ... I think it's going to be a major problem for the young kids
... a car without an exhaust ... WTF good is that?

Difficult to look both ways if you are blind...

There is no need for gov't studies, gov't regulation or anything to do with the gov't, as it is a need and the car companies should respond to make the vehicles safer and so they can be heard by those who rely on hearing more than sight.
