It was a hard road to the Final -- a lot of good teams fell by the wayside. Finally, at the end of everything, only one was left standing.

Congratulations to them -- and thanks to all for a great World Cup.

    Now, when's training camp? :)

I loved this World Cup...except for 2 or 3 games in the beginning
even the round 1 games were solid. The game's speed has increased from years ago.
I hope casual soccer fans enjoyed it and will get their kids signed up to play this great game.

Congratulations to the Azzuri!! I think overall they deserve it. Not the greatest game ever played, but I'm sure all Italians won't be giving a toss as long as that trophy is heading back to their homeland.
    Well done.

    Congrats to Italy!!!
Great to see perfidious France lose again. Since I can't stand watching paint dry, soccer or baseball, I assume that France surrendered in OT.

Maybe this is a good time to start a thread of Italian jokes, no?

For the life of me, I have no idea why Italy sat on their hands after the red card gave them the man advantage. And why not extend the last OT to a sudden death without a shootout? Not a good way to end the greatest sports event, IMO.

I can't answer the first. Having played the game certainly helps. At its best (which you don't often see, I admit) soccer lives up to the late Brian Clough's descripton of it as "the people's ballet".

I think that you'll have to go to the Political Forum to get an answer to the second. :)

Some years ago....France was perceived as being against the freedom policies much of Europe adopted. Also, France leaving NATO left a black mark on this perception.

Some feel France to be snobbish and too much for themselves. They are perceived to be bigoted against Americans and Jews. They are accused of not caring about freedom and human rights.

Not my opinions there...just how many view them. I know a bunch of people who have been to France and think many of these perceptions are pure crap...though their snobbish nature to Americans perhaps may be the only perception to have some validity.

As per my opinion...I think they are merely picked on too much for their infamous surrender...kind of silly to pick on them for that. The stuff I typed above i think represents alot of crap that really no longer is prevelant in France. France has a wonderfull multi-cultural community. The heartland of the U.S. should take a look at how being multi-cultural is a good thing. France has always been proud of their soccer team..calling it the Red/White/Blue team of multi-culturalism....I AGREE WITH THAT AND THAT'S WHY THEY ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEAMS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE SO.
