Im taking this time to say congrtas to gostkowski. This was his first ever playoff game, and played great. He had a total of 13 points. 9 points from field goals, and 4 points from extra points. One field goal was from 40 yards. Before the Pats opened up the game in the fourth quater Gostkowski was the reason for keeping us ahead in this close fought game. Living in the shadow of Vinatieri, i think it was important for him to have a big game, for himself, and the trust from the fans. Congrats to Gostkowski.

I loved the one he drilled through the back of the end zone. Never saw Vinatieri do that.

Studies have shown that longer kickoffs have greater impact on a season than a few percentage points more accuracy, anyway. Not that Gost isn't accurate enough.

Detractors might say that until he makes a game winning kick with the season on the line, we won't know - but I discount that.

EVERY kick in a playoff game is a potential season-altering kick. "Game winning" kicks happen in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters as well as the 4th.

No doubt Gostowski knows that and felt every ounce of pressure - and came through with flying colors.

Defenitley agree. Every kick is crucial in the playoffs. Your right, the points add up all game long, and a kick made in the second quater could be the points to decide a game. He is a rookie and needed a good game to get a lift from us, and his team mates.

13 points . . . his second best day yet.

BTW--I had to listen to that part of the game on the radio. :( So where did his through-the-end-zone touchback end up?

And now I need to add a playoff line to my sig. :)

With Miller and Walter down, I'm pretty sure Cassel is now our holder.

Cassel was definitely the holder. I think they ( and Paxton) did a good job. Lets hope he can get even more touchbacks further into the playoffs.

We're used to Vinitraitor who might make it to the HoF... it's perfectly reasonable to get nervous about any leg less.

Congrats for a great game. I'm not sold on him until he does it when it counts but this is a good start for him and the Pat's. You have to start somewhere right? No doubt his kickoffs were better today then AV's have ever been. They were huge, that Justin Miller kid was excellent this season and didn't deserve a chance to ru it back.

I liked that kickoff but it wasn't his best. He hammered a KO a mile high that Miller fielded at the five and couldn't ge to teh ten before the coverage was on him. How often do you see five yard reKO returns. You don't unless the Ko reurner fumbles it or something. Not the case here though. At the Vine all were wondering how he had so much hang time on a fairly deep kickoff...

That kid scares me a little with his curveballs.. got some major draw sometimes on the FGs. I won't be surprised if the ball does hook and smack Polian in the head while he is the press box while he is foaming at the mouth next year.

I won't complain about the kickoffs though. :D

He actually kicked the ball over the returners head.....I think. The kick defenitly landed towards the back of end zone. If i recall right

If that were to happen I think I would be able to forgive him for missing the field goal. :D
