So basically... the Pats get absolutely no comp picks?

Not this year. We lost Graham. Which would have probably gotten us a 3rd or 4th.
But, we signed A.Thomas,D.Stallworth and K.Washington. I didn't see other thread. Sorry, didn't see. You can merge ...For Mods

    From Miguel's Free Agency page:
Right now the Pats have signed Jason Webster, Sam Aiken, and Tank Williams. They've lost Samuel (9.5 million), Gay (4 million), Stallworth (5 million). Eugene Wilson still remains unsigned, but could go in the 2 million range.

Shefter is reporting that Webster signed for 2.2 million. He'll probably off-set Gay. Aiken and Williams may or may not count depending on what they signed for, contract wise.

Samuel will net the Pats a 3rd and Stallworth a 4th, most likely.

We better hope that at least one of Aiken and Williams doesn't count, or that Wilson signs a qualifying contract somewhere else--because if you sign the same number of qualifying FAs as you lose, then no matter how small those qualifying contracts are, the best you can hope for is a seventh-round pick.

We didn't release Stallworth. We didn't pick up his option. Take a look in the other thread. Dryheat explains it.

That's false also. 1 million signing doesn't off-set a 9.5 million loss. They have to be in similar brackets.

If those are the only FA events, then, sadly, they do cancel out.

This didn't come as any surprise; I knew this would be the case back in May or June of last year (having read adamjt13's work before).

Here's an interesting question, though--I know that since the Pats cut Colvin, he doesn't count as a FA lost for the Pats, but does he count as a FA gained for the team that signs him?

No. Players who are CUT do not count in the Compensatory pick equation. Either as players signed or as players lost.

Reiss reports Webster signed for 1yr/750K and Aiken signed for 2yr/1.6M. Tank signed a 1 yr deal but no mention of money. Pretty puny but not sure if they count in the comp calculation.

I would imagine the braintrust knows about what Samuel/Stallworth/Gay would fetch in 2009 comp picks. I would doubt they would sign anyone (and keep them on the roster) unless they were worth the money and the potential loss of comp picks in 2009.
