Finally our media and our congress are admitting that our gov't reported unemployment numbers are a farce.

It doesn't matter who, when or why it ever changed...that is irrelevant.

What matters is that there is now a proposal in congress to report the real numbers. After all, why would Americans WANT to be lied to? Who among our members would NOT want to know the REAL numbers?

    From Yahoo Finance....

The Unemployment Rate Is a Farce That Needs Fixing

"That's right. For all its stature, the payroll report (which will be released Friday) has a major flaw — and it's a doozy. The headline unemployment rate is essentially a bunch of bunk.

The current 8.2% figure you hear about so often is wildly inaccurate and doesn't fairly reflect the true state of the nation's labor force. It's a deficiency that Wall Street-types have long adjusted for with a wink-wink sort of acceptance, knowing full well that the so-called "U-3" headline number is actually a quagmire of exclusions and adjustments that under-reports the real situation by as much as 50%."

The truth is only important to you if it hurts the other "side". How sad.

You're right for once, Reagan would be very sad to see the mess we we have made of the economy his policies turned around in the 80's.

Do you want 4 more years of this Obama economy or do you want to give Romney a shot at making things better?

    Ive seen enough from Obama.

This is well known. Reagan was one of the early ones who changed the way we measure unemployment after his tax cuts resulted in 10.8% unemployment. (He eventually raised taxes and increased deficit spending to get us out of recession.) Of course, it's good to change the system to something more honest provided that the revised numbers trace back at least a couple decades. It also makes sense to do it after the election, but right-wing partisans naturally want it done now.

I've seen enough from Romney. He's a tax cheat, a hypocrite, and a liar. I think we need to kick out the entire Tea Party and give liberal economics a real chance.

Do you have proof of that? You always ask for proof.

Reagen cured cancer but the left covered it up and destroyed the data. Wow, this "just like the birthers" stuff is powerful indeed!

For the first two years, it was worse. Tax cuts and budget cuts caused unemployment to skyrocket. Then Reagan reversed course. Also, the Dems put country before party so were not undermining Reagan at every step. The Republicans put party before country so they met the stimulus bill with massive layoffs and cuts that reduced the impact of the stimulus.

Do you honestly believe that Romney is so stupid that he would run for POTUS and have damaging tax returns? He would spend all this money campaigning only to be undone by his 2011 tax returns?

    Why would he do that?

When Romney releases his 2011 tax returns Obama, Pelosi and Hairy Reed will look like the fools they are.

Reagan lowered unemployment expanded the % of workplace participation and doubled revenues at the same time.

Under Obama even with the numbers being jiggled as PR describes this is the longest period of unemployment >8% in 80 years.

    Total fail by Obama.

The Reagan fantasy continues.. he raised taxes 7 times and increased the deficit 3 fold... he did more shyt than another president, if the internet was as active now as it was then he would have been impeached. Not responding to the Marines getting killed in Lebanon, arming OBL, negotiating with the Iranians before he was elected, attacking Grenada.. who cares the right will still deify this jackass.

He changed the rules on how we count the unemployed to make Carter look worse than he did.. now you want to change it back??? WTF is that about.

Now all of a sudden lets change the rules, what a crock of shyt this is turning into...

But, Reagan had a Democratic Congress that was willing to play ball. Actually, Obama's approach is very similar to Reagan's: Create record deficits, spend money on lots of projects (Star Wars, for example), and cut taxes. If the Tea Party had put country first, our economy would probably be in better shape. For that reason I wish the Democrats would make this election as a referendum on the Tea Party. I think the Tea Party is on the verge of being so unpopular as to be marginalized. I'm waiting for a Joe McCarthy moment to happen. But, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this time ol' Joe will win.
