Coaches Rankings: Give It Up For Bill Belichick

Guess who they rank numer one?
    1. Bill Belichick, Patriots. The smartest coach in the NFL. No one does a better job of adapting schemes and personnel to the opponent on a week-to-week basis. He always finds a way to win the matchup game.

The sad thing is that Brad Childress, Norv Turner, and Wade Phillips are among the top fifteen - though that may be due to so many brand new coaches currently ranked in the bottom 1/3.

Well, they didn't like him getting rid of Cutler.

But I'll defend him. If your quarterback isn't on board with what you're doing, parting company straight away is the right thing to do. The Broncos got good value too. Not getting Cassel may turn out to be the big mistake.

And the guy at No. 1 would agree with you.

The Giants have been a solid team since he's been there - he also turned Jacksonville into winners. He is a good coach.

I also think McD has a chance, but will he be able to survive the firestorm ? I don't really blame him for canning Cutler. The guy hasn'T won anything unless you count the drinking games he plays instead of studying the playbook. Broncos better off with Orton - who wins more and screws up less. Unfortunately, they not ready to win right now and so McD could be ousted before he rights the ship.

    #95 Jersey

No love for Lovie Smith. Look at all the coaches that have taken their teams to the Super Bowl, they are ranked#1,2,3,4,5,7,9, and #20 (Smith) ..Ouch...

    #75 Jersey

There's really been a changing of the guard.

Considering a high percentage of that list must have been arrived at by throwing darts at a board full of unproven coaches...

Mangini still ranks no higher than 25? LOL

How could he be anything but? He hasn't coached a single down as a head coach yet.

    #3 Jersey

Neither have other coaches on it. At least JMcD has been an OC.

Morris was Tampa Bay's defensive back coach! I think he is more unproven.

Well, the argument is based upon the Cutler move. Of course, they ignore the fact that it was the owner who sent the cry-baby packing. They should have put all the unprovens into 1 'tied' group.

By not doing that, they make the entire list absolutely useless.

He has a ring, fisher and Reid don't.

However, consistancy between those guys is close, so I don't disagree that much. Coughlin has won alot more than he has lost in both places. If the Giants win it next year, the talk only solidifies itself. I think it's not a problem to have him there.

How is Singletary in the top 15? Woopie, he got the niners to .500. that aint ****, it damn sure shouldn't get their ranking up. Pretty ridiculous to list guys with a year under their belt in the top 10

Hey, the 32nd rank coach is still the 32nd best best in the entire USA.

He's taken his teams to the Playoffs in eight of the 13 seasons he's been an HC. He's gone to three Conference Championship Games and won the SB. That "unmentionable game," as awful as it was, didn't just hinge on a one-in-a-million catch by a utility player who'll be out of the league soon, but on an awesome defensive schematic put in by his staff. Let's give the guy the credit he deserves. I certainly put him above Reid and Fisher, who haven't won the big one. Tomlin is still too new to deserve so high a ranking. Maybe you could make a case for Fox, but otherwise I don't see who else you would put at number two.

I don't have too many arguments with the top ten here, but Brad Childress at 11 seems to be a stretch. Also, I think 18 is way too kind to Dick Jauron. It's interesting that they rank Rex Ryan, who hasn't coached a single down as HC of the NYJ, ahead of Eric Mangini. I'm not unhappy with that at all, but it suggests that Mangini has some serious image problems (boo hoo!).

On the Josh McDaniels issue, yeah it's a little harsh considering that he wasn't the only chef in the kitchen when l'affair Cutler unfolded, but he sure is off to a rocky start.

Which means he hasn't proven himself to be terrible, unlike a handful of guys on there.
