I think this is a good idea.

Companies will not have to provide health insurance for employees. This should lower costs, increase employment, and make US companies more competitive globally. For employees, there will be more mobility in changing jobs without worrying about health care coverage.

It'll do what? Interesting how the article doesn't cover any specifics, or explain what her government take over of health care is exactly, yet you think it will do this, that, and everything else.

I want the government to run less, not more. No thanks.

Wouldn't that be nice? Unfortunately, Bush has not done much to help achieve this end.

He's guaranteed that the next person can increase his massive government by the standard 5-10%. :( Great eh? Then, when the $3.1 Trillion budget of 2009 comes along, and the government takes in $3.5 Trillion of our hard earned cash, the thieves in office will chant how they "have a surplus", and need to spend it. After all, it'll be for education, SS, and secure a bridge that no one crosses, or buy another drone to fly over a desert somewhere. They'll have to do this because it's responsible to do so. Um, no. Responsible is slashing government waste, and learning to spend LESS, or what you have budgeted at least. You don't overtax, and then overspend. Sadly, that is ALWAYS the case. GW has made that worse now, and worse later.

Yeah Bush has not fiscally responsible at all. It's irritating, because he's supposed to be from the party of less government, yadda yadda, nothing that you haven't said more eloquently already. And I don't know who of the current crop of Republican nominees will be gov't slashers.

None. I say that because it's been 50-60 years since this country has actually seen a reduction in spending. Every Administration since, has spent more the one before. So it's safe to say that the next clown, regardless of party, is going to spend more than GW. That's why what GW has done is so upsetting. Not only has he increased government like never before, but he's made it so that the problem will only get worse when he's gone. That doesn't even count what Amnesty would mean if it's ever passed.

Start investing in gold and bury it in your back yard. :D

    #75 Jersey

Yeah, and with no competition whatsoever, healthcare prices will...............

    SKYROCKET!!!!!

What about the 40 million illegal aliens, who is going to cover them? Right now private hospitals have been forced to cover the cost of health care for the illegals. Who is oging to pay for them? Their care has already been mandated by the Supreme Court. How long am I going to have to wait to see a doctor, and will I be standing in line behind someone who is not suppose to even be here? Will we all soon be sporting the famed "British Smile".

So we are going to take the best health care in the world in turn it over to the governmet so they can run it as well as they run...

    schools
    welfare
    social security
    medicaid
    medicare

I can see the stories about the $50,000 band aid now.

Almost every employer offers health insurance, and I think that we can all agree that the only people not working in this ecocnomy are either those who can not physically work (and they are already covered by ss, and medicare) and those WHO CHOOSE NOT TO WORK, and for them, I have zero sympathy.

    OK
If you don't know the tune "Rap Crap It" :singing:

I stopped at a roadhouse in Texas,
A little place called Hamburger Dan's
I heard that old jukebox a-playing,
A song 'bout a truck driving man

Pour me another cup of coffee,
For it is the best in the land
I'll put a nickel in the jukebox,
And play The Truck Driving Man

It's funny. I pay like $466 a month for my healthcare insurance. In Decmeber I had a pain in my balls (seriously lol) that didn't feel quite right, so I wanted to get it checked out. I called to make an appointment and the lady at MGH told me to come in on August 19th. Again, it was December. She said that was the earliest she had, and to go to the ER if I didn't want to wait that long. So I told her I wasn't paying almost $500 a month to go wait 9 hours in an ER, next to illegals and the uninsured, so that some doctor could refer me to another doctor for a later appointment.

Harry, if you're 80, I would assume you get Medicare, right? So you're already on the dole, to take a right wing perspective on government health care. Why are you against other people getting health care, too? Why should my tax dollars help people like you out, but not others? Or do you oppose Medicare and Medicaid, too?

Yes I'm on Medicare I don't think they give me enough I worked for 65 years (outdoors, snow sleet and dark of night) paying taxes, there are several people living on this Island in their forties that have spent their whole lives drinking booze and mowing lawns (now and then) they are on "MEDICAID" they get better health and dental than I do.

I didn't ask for Medicare the Govt gave it to me, why don't the "Pant Suit Hillary People" just sign up for MEDICAID it's Free.

Harry's paid in his whole life. WTF are you talking about? It's some of my tenants that you should be pissed at. Those of whom I speak of, have worked ZERO days in this country, yet get free housing, healthcare, and a check from SS. WTF is that? Harry's worked and paid in at gun point, and you think those who don't, should be able to suck off the working man's dime.

Hey, I agree Harry's entitled to Medicare. I'm all for that program. I also think that there are many people who work hard, worked their whole lives, and can't afford health care. They get health care, anyway, by going to the emergency room, where they have to be treated. National health care will make it much easier for small business people (who often don't have health care and can't afford to offer it to their employees) and for people who want to change jobs, go back to school, etc. As far as lazy bums, I'm not sure what the answer is.

Government run healthcare is a disaster guaranteed.

When you talk about many people working hard and not affording healthcare, are you considering the 30-40 million illegals who are draining the healthcare system, and raising my premium?

Many of the illegals pay taxes.

Government run healthcare works very well in many countries, including Canada, France, and the Scandinavian countries. In many cases, the government provides a basic level of care, which can be supplemented by private insurance.

As far as those who take advantage of the system, I think that's legitimate issue. In the end, when it comes to health care, a lazy illegal immigrant who is injured will still get care, so by not providing him/her with insurance, we don't really accomplish anything. Also, we have to address the needs of children who are victims of their lazy parents.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Government run healthcare is a disaster in Italy. One which I have witnessed first hand. Be it my grandmother, aunts, uncles, friends, or brother who have all spent time in hospitals there, and have had deplorable care. My grandmother & aunt especially. The hospital system, goverment run, in Italy, killed my aunt. She lived here for 25+ years without issue, and died after a couple of years back in Italy. Other European countries are no better. My brother had an English doctor sit in with his doctor (my brother has MS), and the Brit doc couldn't believe that my brother has an MRI every 6 months to detect lesions on his brain. He told my bro and the US Dr. that a patient in Brittain under the same circumstances would have one every 2 years. In Canada, my buddies hospital didn't have a doctor for over a week so they closed the ER. Yup, that government run healthcare is wonderful.

I'm not touching the illegals/taxes business in order not to hijack this thread.

Not to mention that this country is huge, and the administration problems would be sooo much worse here.
