Ok, so I have been a huge fan of explosive/fast running backs ever since Chris Johnson set foot on the football field. I still like a Corey Dillon type guy a lot too but lately I have been wanting the pats to grab a guy like Spiller. Is there any chance come April 22nd that he could be our guy? Would BB even consider trading up a couple spots if he slides? I would be pretty psyched if Spiller slipped to 22. I also realize that there may be better gambles on RBs later in the draft. What do you guys think?

    Disable Jersey

If you simply want a fast explosive running back, take Jahvid Best rather than trading up for Spiller.

I love the guy, but there's concerns around his durability similar to those that applies to Chris Johnson when he came out.

I also like Jahvid Best but I like Spiller more. Like you said, his injuries have been a concern for many and IDK how long the guy could last in the NFL. Also, who knows, teams may pass on spiller because they think he could just be another Reggie Bush.

I still say Spiller is less Chris Johnson and more Felix Jones. Barring injury, you're not getting more than 15 touches a game out of Spiller. How much is that worth?

    That's the question I'm struggling with. I don't think I'd take him at #22.

We don't have a line that can open up any holes, so no RB is going to look good here. Look at the holes in college and then look at the guys 3 yard in the backfield when Maroney gets a handoff. Superman couldn't run behind this line.

Stop saying 'we.' It's cowardly and unseemly. Man up. Right now, you are trying so hard to trash the Pats in every way posssible you are forced to resort to telling mistruths.

Pats averaged a respectable 4.1 ypc last year.

Further, they ran for 1921 yards, good for 12th best in hte league. 20 teams in the league rushed for fewer yards than the Pats.

Granted, your Jests were first in total yards, but the Pats did better than most.

People said that you wouldn't be able to get more then 15 touches out of CJ. That's one of the reasons he dropped in the first round. So as much as he looks like he is going injured on every play he still gets 25 touches a game through 16 games.

I think the Titans at #16 would be a good team to move up with. They have no 2nd round pick, but picked up additional comp. picks in the 3rd and 4th. They have the 16th overall, and the 13th in round 3. We could trade them #22 and #47. Points are all but equal. 1210 (22 + 47) to 1205 (16 + 77). If the Pats wanted Spiller, he could be there. Id rather the Pats go after Ben Tate. Just not to confident in Spiller. Only problem with Tate is his stock has risen lately and is probably a 3rd round pick. CBS sportsline has him ranked as a 2-3 rnd pick. I think this trade would allow us to get Tate at #77, but what to do with #16. Id still only do the trade if a different player slipped. (Morgan or McClain) or if a player the covet might not be there at #22 (Kindle, Graham, Odrick).

This isn't the year they draft a RB high. Next year on the other hand...

Imagine hearing Mark Ingram's name being called, as the future stud RB.:rocker:

I believe Mathews would be the most beneficial RB for the Pats to take. He IS a high-carry guy that runs north/south. If there aren't any great defensive players left at 22, I could see a slight trade down to get him at a better value... or perhaps a trade up in the 2nd.

    Hardesty would be good.

    One cut, no dancing.
    Strong, breaks tackles
    Runs low
    great blocker
    Good pass catcher.
Available in late 2nd to end of 3rd

    Case closed!

Guys like spiller are injuries waiting to happen.

You're cowardly. It's as much my team as yours. Probably more if measured by length of fandom.

I am critical of the team but at times it needs criticism.

I've never lived in or near NY (nearer than say Walpole). Actually I spent a summer near dingfield in western mass...but it was only a summer!

Ok, suppose you're right about Ingram, and I hope you are, who do you get to build around him? I see Ingram as the core of our future RBBC, who who else do we get?

I'd like to see a rough and tumble fullback as well as a back that could function as a change-up to throw the defense off balance.

Plenty of options later, in this years draft.

    Hardesty
    McKnight
    A. Dixon
    J. Starks
    Blount
    C. Scott
    L. Miller
    D. Karim

Those are just a few options that would be available a little later. Hardesty probably will not last until the 3rd, but everyone else on that list will. I really like Blount, and Dixon as the bruiser back, and Starks, Scott, Miller, and Karim could all be nice change of pace backs. They wouldn't neccesarily need to get both in this years draft, if the current backs on the roster all return. I'd be fine with 1 in the 3rd, and maybe take a flier on one in the 6th.

EDIT: Geez, I almost forgot my binky...FB/TE-Jameson Konz.

I agree that next year is a huge year for offensive weapons especially at RB and WR.

For me Spiller will be nothing more than a jag in the nfl.

Spiller returned like 5 kick offs for touchdowns out of like 30 somthing kick offs. That is really impressive. He is a good player for sure. He would be a good addition to our offense considering we have 3 old RBs (Morris, Faulk, Taylor).

Ugh, kickoff returns are not the be all and end all.

Chris Johnson is an amazing athlete and was sensational last year, but just because a guy looks like Chris Johnson doesn't mean he is going to do what Chris Johnson did.

I am certain this guy will not be a star in the NFL. Its all because of the Chris Johnson factor last season that he is being so highly touted.

Lets have a look at the highly touted RBs in recent times.

    Reggie Bush - Fail
    Darren McFadden - Fail
    Marshawn Lynch - Fail
    Adrian Peterson - Success
    Jonathon Stewart - Average starter
Felix Jones - Good when fit
Rashard Mendenhall - Jury still out
    Chris Johnson - Success
Knowshawn Moreno - Jury still out
Donald Brown - Jury still out
Beanie Wells - Jury still out
    Lawrence Maroney - Average starter
    DeAngelo Williams - Star
    Joseph Addai - Average starter

I mean seriously if all these guys were coming out this year, most guys would be raving about Bush, McFadden, Lynch and Peterson as superstars and only one of them is right now.

I said Bush wouldn't be all that in the NFL. I said that Lynch wouldn't be all that in the NFL. I thought McFadden would be huge but I was wrong. I wasn't sold on Lynch either but I liked Peterson but didn't expect him to do what he has done to this point.

I don't think Spiller is CJ at all. He is like Chris Johnson meets Reggie Bush. He's unique and he could replace Faulk.
