Okay, even though none of us are exclusively liberal or conservative, I think each of us has a clear leaning. So, just out of curiosity, if you had to sign up for one team, which one would it be?

    I'm a liberal-leaning Libertarian.

That is to say I support liberal social causes and conservative fiscal causes, but think the social causes are more important. I also part ways with paleo-conservatives and libertarians in that I believe certain industries like military, police, and roads should be run by the government under a natural monopoly.

I am a way far to the right ultra-conservative, which this current administration is far from being, sometimes it comes down to the people who you think will do less harm than actual good for the country in a whole.

I'm sort of 75% Conservative, 25% Libertarian but am somehow pro gun control.

I tilt so far to the right I'm almost horizontal. But I'm honest about it.

Us Liberals prefer the term Post-911 Progressives, well actually we don't really have a thing for labels as such.

Progressive is totally misleading. How can you be "progressive" and yet want to keep social security equal to putting money under your mattress ? Bush is the progressive on this issue. Clearly.

In all seriousness, you can't think there's some kind of gigantic mattress down at the Social Security office right? As it is the investors so to speak do get a decent return thats as solid as the existance of America is. Zero risk is nothing to just dismiss if you ask me. Lets not forget about the massive handout to Enronish money managers privatising the trust fund will result in.

If you're that interested in Privatizing Social Security, just give Warren Buffet a call and toss him a couple of dollars . You'll get your increased dividends and the people who have no clue about how the stock market works won't have to jump off ledges every time the NASDAQ takes a plunge.

    Ha ha, good one.

I want to invest my own money how I want, thank you. I would be willing to pay half of what I do now in SS and get nothing out if I could just keep the other 50% to do with as I wish.

Perhaps, considering the cost of his plan will be in the trillions. Look, for all the hype that issue gets, its a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. SS will die a natural death, but nobody 40 and younger expects it there for them anyway so most of them are all going with mutual funds.

Gauging Bush's progressiveness on Rove's failed SS policy is weak at best.

Someone might want to consider starting an SS thread. I'd do it but the web has rules against n00bs starting threads.

I'm putting what ? 7+% or so into social security ? I damn well better get something out of it. Otherwise I'll just start deducting it as a charitable contribution. And, yes, I max out my 401K and have other mutual fund savings the best I can. But I'll be damned if I'm going to throw 7% away, in addition to all the other taxes, and expect nothing back.

Oh, and I'll be 39 next month.

    Oh Jesus,
I am so far right I go out of sight, but I bob up when the subject of "Drugs" is mentioned.

I believe all drugs should be legalized and that includes everything from Pot right up the line to Heroin.

Criminalization of drugs is a hypocritical JOKE.

Go into your local schoolyard and you can buy any drug of your choice, so they may as well sell it in Wal Mart. The people that use it will be the same people that are using it now.

As I have said before on here, do this and the smelly drug dealers will have to sell their houses, their Mercedes, and their yachts and go to work cleaning toilets. The prison population will drop through the floor and the young black men that shoot each other over deals gone bad will live to see the sun come up.

I also believe in abortion, up to a certain time.

That kind of takes away from your "I am so far right I go out of sight" line . . .

Like turning our military, police, and road maintence over to private companies? I'm a registered Libertarian and I disagree with that. Not all libertarians quite agree on everything. I consider some ulta-libertarians to be anarchists.

The two biggest issues I have with Libertarians are 1) Abortion (they're typically pro choice) and 2) defense of the national border (they're typically against it).
