The operation manager (an American) at our factory in China turned 60 last Sunday. So beforehand I authorized the staff there to get some cake for him and everyone else at the factory to celebrate on the Friday before his birthday. I was not in town that day so a few days later I asked our administrative assistant how it went. She told me that the operations manager wasn't here Friday (he took his son to the doctor instead), so they decided that everyone else would eat the cake. To be nice they took a picture of them eating the cake to show him. Yes, instead of waiting until Monday (the day after his birthday) to celebrate his birthday with him, they ate his cake 2 days before his birthday. When I asked WHY!?!?!?!?!, she said because "sometimes Chinese people like to celebrate birthdays before they occur, but not after, and what do you think" I said I think that is the dumbest thing I have heard in years.
