Gotta love the way CHFF slices what we've just seen.

Let me become the first to dare ask this here:
Next season, in his 10th year, Manning will smash all the records
Unitas took 17 seasons to set.
Before his career is finished, he likely will have captured every worthwhile league record for QBs.
    What does this make Manning?

    Oh, btw:

Widely held belief: Super Bowl XLII will be played in February 2008
Cold, Hard Football Fact: Super Bowl XLII might be decided on Sept. 6.

The Colts and Patriots have squared off in five of the past six regular seasons.

In four of those five seasons, the winner of the New England-Indy regular-season matchup(s) has gone on to win the Super Bowl.
The 2001 Patriots beat the Colts twice in the regular season and went on to win the Super Bowl.
The 2003 Patriots beat the Colts in the regular season and went on to win the Super Bowl.
The 2004 Patriots beat the Colts in the regular season and went on to win the Super Bowl.
The 2006 Colts beat the Patriots in the regular season and went on to win the Super Bowl.
In 2003, 2004 and 2006, the winner of the New England-Indy game earned the higher seed in the playoffs. As a result, they also hosted the loser of the regular-season meeting in the playoffs. The home team won all three times.

As the 2006 Super Bowl champions, the Colts will host the first game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 6. New England is on their 2007 schedule.

It could be the champs vs. their arch-rivals, in a rematch of the real 2006 Super Bowl, the one played two weeks ago.

    Sounds like a plan.

So, crank up the hype machine men … It’s just 213 days ‘til kickoff.

As has been posted elsewhere, with the Pats going to China in the pre-season at the NFL's behest, it is rather unlikely they (the league) would foist this off on Kraft and the Patriots.

That being said, should it indeed come to pass, it will be prima facie evidence that the fix is indeed in.

And that having been said, if such a scenario does indeed emerge, it could mark the start of a rift between Kraft and the league office.

    Bears watching, in my estimation.

It is EXACTLY why they would foist this on the Pats. Look at the last 2 seasons and when the Pats have played the Colts. In 2005, the Colts got a bye week to prepare for the Pats. This year, the Pats had a short week because of the MNF game against the Vikings.

When you give a team like the Colts that much rest before facing the Patriots and then you short-change the Patriots, its going to be hard for them to win.

I have no doubt in my mind that the Pats will open against Indy on September 6th.
