The Sith Lord spoke yeaterday....here are some omissions, misstatements and exaggerations by VADER!

The Raw Story Cheney lied repeatedly in speech on closing Guantanamo, paper says

    * Cheney said Obama's move to release Bush memos on torture was "flatly contrary" to national security.

    - Fact: National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair "strongly supported" Obama's decision to release the memos and said "we do not need these techniques to keep America safe."

    * Cheney claimed that the Bush team "moved decisively against the terrorists in their hideouts and their sanctuaries, and committed to using every asset to take down their networks."

    - Fact: Osama Bin Laden and his chief lieutenant, Ayman al Zawahri , remain at large. Moreover, the US diverted critical military resources from Afghanistan to Iraq, where al Qaeda was not in force until the US invaded.

    * Cheney asserted there was no connection between Bush administration torture and detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib.

    - Fact: The Senate Armed Services Committee found in December that Abu Ghraib abuses were linked to approval of Bush administration techniques.

    * Cheney said "only detainees of the highest intelligence value" were subjected to torture.

    - Fact: Cheney ignored Abu Zubaydah.

    * Cheney said "the key to any strategy is accurate intelligence."

    - Fact: The Bush administration used bogus intelligence as a pretense for invading Iraq -- including a forgery that purportedly linked Saddam Hussein to an attempt to purchase uranium from Niger.

    * Cheney ignored the recently "suicided" al Qaida operative Ali Mohamed al Fakheri, who provided bogus intelligence about Iraq's links to al Qaeda.

    * Cheney said Obama selectively released documents on Bush detainee policies.

    - Fact: A decision to withhold documents Cheney requested for declassification was made by the CIA under a standing order from President George W. Bush..

    * Cheney claimed that only "ruthless enemies of this country" were detained by US agents and sent to secret prisons and Guantanamo.

    - Fact: "A 2008 McClatchy investigation, however, found that the vast majority of Guantanamo detainees captured in 2001 and 2002 in Afghanistan and Pakistan were innocent citizens or low-level fighters of little intelligence value who were turned over to American officials for money or because of personal or political rivalries."

More of Cheney's falsifications, omissions and misstatements can be read here.

Print Story: Cheney's speech contained omissions, misstatements - Yahoo! News

Also of note? Erstwhile President George W. Bush said he didn't watch either Vice President Cheney or President Barack Obama's speech.

Fact, since 9-11 America hasn't been attacked.

All the rest is noise from those who know Cheney is correct.

    anthrax?

nah......that doesn't count in your mind, I gues.......

fact is that 9-11 happened on Dicky and Chimp's watch. and don't give me the BS about "he only was in office for 7 months".... Cheney has been in the WH for a TON of years, along with rummy etc. Its not like these dudes were rookies. Its not like they werent warned.

"9-11 made us take a second look at terrorism" - Dick Cheney

menaing he made a first LOOK, and did fukcing NOTHING!

Cheney admitted to waterboarding in his 'speech' yesterday. His prison jumpsuit size is XE (Extra Evil), ironically thats Blackwater's new name.....LOSERS!

The buck didn't stop with Bush, in your mind apparently. He apparently answered to a higher power, god? Thats why it was refreshing to hear our commander in chief take resposibility for his actions yesterday.

I agree with that ;) but as I said in another thread, does anybody here remember Dick Cheney? You know, Mr. NORAD, King of Halliburton, Prison Profiteer, former Chairman of the CFR  please. Now he's suddenly become the spokesman for America's values? Are things really THAT bad?

It's fascinating that Cheney's standing alone though; nothing from Bush, nothing from Rumsfeld, nothing from Condi...

I don't trust this administration but I trust Dick Cheney even less. There's something in it for him besides a "deep love of his country and concern for it's safety". Trusting Dick Cheney with my future is like trusting the Federal Reserve and Timothy Geithner to make sure our investments are safe.

Once again, why would they need to spend 5x the money to try and hit us here when we've provided a far more symbolic set of sitting duck targets right in their own back yard?

The only noise here is coming FROM those who THINK Big Dick is correct.

    #91 Jersey

Lets see 13, it was EIGHT (8) years between the first attack on the WTC and the second, so we were safer under Clinton using this logic. It happened on the Bush/Cheney watch even though several members of the Bush staff warned Bush/Cheney about AQ. including Richard Clark. The adm. chose to ignore the warnings until it was to late. So how can YOU and Cheney keep beating this drum.

Sooner he has a stroke so he can't speak any more the better...and then dead. If there's a hell (and there isn't) he can go there. Cheney's a blight on US history.
