Or you could've used this quote:
but no, why would you do that?
or this one :
You did use that one. That's my point.
Cheney is a loser. There really isn't any denying that. I was hoping GW would dump him in 2004 and pick up Powell as VP. Too bad he didn't.
WTF is with you expecting other people to argue your position for you?
I would expect a remark like that "they volunteered" from some drunken neo-con slob sitting at a bar. But the VP saying this! totally insensative and uncalled for. It just proves money and power doesn't by class or dignity. These soldiers are nothing but numbers to this guy. He doesn't obviously doesn't care that they were someones son, daughter, husband, wife father or mother.
Cheney is scum
A war profiteer and worthy of public scorn for the rest of his miserable existence.
How am I expecting that? All I'm questioning is Wes' balance. He posts some of the most negative stuff from some bizarre places, and no one (for the most part) calls him on it. At some point he should be held accountable for his sources, just as ever time someone from the right says something there's a chorus of "what's the source on that" and "that's just a right wing rag".
Please point out were he said that they "volunteered" as some dismissive statement, like the title of the thread, he said that we have an all-volunteer army and that this has been very hard on them.
ABC news is a bizarre place !
Are you expecting me to listen to AM radios now ?
Who says anyone has to be balanced? This is a political messageboard not the MacNeil/Lerher news hour. People are allowed to have opinions and, believe it or not, those opinions can vary from yours. Questioning his source is also kinda stupid don't you think? Being as Wes' source is Cheney's mouth. Not directly of course; but Cheney did say those words, did he not?
He said a few other things as well. Like this:
See how much nicer "blessed with families" sounds?
My point--again--is that every time a left leaning person posts something from anywhere--no matter what it is or from where--it gets treated like total truth, but if anyone else puts up anything, it gets torn apart. That's the balance I'm talking about.
And I don't care if people have differing opinions from me. Some of my very best friends are liberal, bordering on socialists.
"Believe it or not" my azz.
How does it change? The families and soldiers have still sacrificed. Honestly, I'd think it would give more weight to it from your point of view.
Yes they didn't sign up to do 3-4 tours of duty. I don't know how they can keep going back and rolling the dice. From what my son and other friends with kids that joined tell me they signed up because they wern't sure what they wanted to do in life, and thought joining would help them figure that out. Or the idea of seeing the world and getting money for collage was the hook. With others they came from small towns and were bored with small town life like a lot of there friends who joined. For my son it was to be part of something special so he went out for the S.F.'s. But whatever the reason they never bargained for this. And more than a few will tell you they were lied to as far as what there Mos would be. Once they got in all of a sudden it changed. One kid in particular wrote my son to tell him that he was signed up to be a nuclear engineer? aboard a an aircraft carrier. Once he passed boot camp he was told since he didn't pass some Math class in middle school he was being assigned to the post office aboard ship.
Wes and NEM take a lot of pleasure in this.
Quoting their posting idol "mikey"
"More dead republican voters"
Ah yes, those "liberal bastards" at ABC News, which is where his source here comes from. The network that produced the fraudulent "Path to War" special that deflected all blame to Bill Clinton, despite multiple factual inaccuracies.
Wow. For a guy who "never watches" Fox News, you sure do have their scripts and game plans down pat.
Your agenda is being exposed badly here. Fortunately, you are now being held accountable for it.
The reason a person joins is irrelevent to all except that individual. Regardless of the reason or incentive they decided to join. Any one who joins the military and doesn't believe that they have the possibility of going to war, probably shouldn't be allowed to join.
I highly doubt that a recruit who successfully passes boot camp would be reassigned due to a failed course at any point during their schooling. Considering all the military cares about is whether or not you graduated/received a GED and your ASVAB score.
Either way the truth is in the contract and if the recruit was promised something that wasn't in the contract then he should have spoken up once he/she noticed that it wasn't listed in the contract.
By the way I appreciate your son's service.:rocker:
What you're arguing is simmantical, and subjective. He did say they volunteered. When you read what he said because you support him it most likely sounded to you that he was honoring them. But to me having listened to five years of dismissive statements from Cheney about the cost,or reason to continue being in Iraq. I automaticaly hear them as dismissive. To me his attitude has always been dismissive of anyone who questions the war. Like his statement last week. Mr. Cheney what do you think of the fact that 2/3rds of Americans are against the war? Cheney..."SO". I Really don't think he cares about the guys on the ground. To him there just pawns, numbers in a crusade to achieve his personal goals.
3 years ago there were over 15,000 dead Amerikans...
That number is a bit off.
Separate names with a comma.
