You know, I respected Barkley even when he was a Republican. He always comes off as a level-headed, well-spoken guy. Although I'm not black myself, I feel that he is a very good ambassador for the American black community (much better than NAACP). Not to be a ball-washer, but I really do think he's in a minority of athletes who use their brains off the court in a positive way.
Except for when he threw that guy through a window.
when was that!??? tell me more!
October 26, 1997 in Orlando. Threw a guy named Jorge Lugo through a plate glass window at a club. When he was asked if he had any regrets about the incident, he said "I regret we weren't on a higher floor".
"I am not a role model"
Charles Barkley, ex-Republican
Who gives a sh!t, I'm an EX democrat.
After further research into the bar-fight incident, I think it highlights (or lowlights) Barkley's tendency towards a quick temper. But there are no similar off-court incidents that I can dig up through Google or Wikipedia and Lugo DID throw ice cream at him. I still don't think he's that bad of a guy. That line at the end about his 'regrets' should be in the next Schwarzenegger movie though.
Agreed, I have no problem with him (though wasn't there also that spitting at a fan incident)? The "I'm not a role model thing" was way overblown - it was a Nike commercial, not his own line.
I'm not sure there isn't a bigger target then an opinionated black man with a white wife from the south. I always like to hear his opinion which seems to be fairly logical and truthful. He apologized for the spitting incident saying it was one of the worst things he's ever done (that and maybe his horrendous golf swing). I'm glad he's not making excuses for his party like so many others.
Bush had a "DUI" thirty years ago, he used to drink, I don't have a problem with that.
