I'm surprised Patters held off for as long as he did, given his deeply held leftist beliefs. But he quickly freezes a thread last night on the topic of church burnings in the American South, a supposed instance of widespread white racism, giving a rationale based on power: you lost the election, racist. Hmm. How arbitrary of you, Patters.

I was reminded of it doing research on another topic showing how political correctness kills. One commentator reminded me of a situation in a Georgia courthouse where a diminutive female guard was escorting a dangerous large guy, who ended up escaping. That's my rationale.

Curious when I seem to have the facts on my side. For example it's a matter of record that the issue was reported fifteen years ago The USA Today (an in-depth investigation), the Wall Street Journal (July 8, 1996), and the July 15, 1996, issue of the New Yorker by the late Michael Kelly (soon to take over the helm of the left-of-center New Republic--he would die in Iraq, covering that conflict), entitled "Playing with Fire."

These are mainstream publications not known for being racially conscious. Why can't it be discussed here? A prominent and verifiable example of the MSM grievously failing in their job, obviously for ideological reasons Patters supports, helping to explain the rise of New Media...is worth a hearing it seems to me.

Good heavens, why isn't it a legitimate topic here? How many threads based on Vice President Cheney shooting a hunting partner? Does Patters have a direct line to my heart? Do readers know Deval Patrick weighed in on the controversy at the time?

I guess this forum will constrain discussions of race that make the liberals look bad. Since it's my deeply held belief that liberals have made life worse for the very minorities they have attempted to help. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, a truth that escapes some because of their lifetime emotional investment into a political programme. More's the pity as it stifles debate. Check out your nearest college or university for more examples.

The thread was closed primarily because it was quickly deteriorating into charges of racism, and not a discussion of your point. At any rate, you seem to have a very critical view of people of color and, frankly, the rules are designed to prevent racist and other forms of prejudice, and many your posts are seen by many as racist or certainly racially insensitive. With this particular subject, not only was race involved, but so was religion. You can always PM one of the conservative moderators and ask them to open the thread.

Moderation seems to be inconsistent... more in line with their personal belief system, than equitable enforcement of rules...

Yesterday an unnamed poster threatened people with bodily harm, with no apparent repurcussion..

The day before another told me to shove that post up my ass, with no apparent repurcussion..

There seems to be a lot of inconsistency on this board, and little decorum...

There are continual random, ad hominen attacks out of nowhere and add little to the threads...

IMO it has to be either one way or the other, follow the rules of cease to exist...

In other words anything to do with Racism is bad and should be watched closely, but it is ok for one poster to tell another to shove the post up his ass, for one poster to make physical threats and consistently allow random ad hominen attacks... there seems to be little balance and not enough equitable enforcement of the rules...

There really wasn't a point. Some dude who also wrote a bunch of stuff stating that there was virtually no threat of AIDS being transmitted hetero-sexually wrote an op ed peice saying that there were no black churches being torched a few decades ago.

Considering the source I simply considered it a non-issue with no credible source of information being provided.

Considering it happened decades ago I also figured who the hell gave a damn and why bring it up now if not solely to persue some personal agenda.

It was a pointless thread and reopening it would be equally pointless.

Oh, sure! Throw ME under the bus!

I thought that thread was deteriorating onto a discussion of films of the 50's and 60's....not racism.

Oh well. Off to Foxboro in ten min, just as soon as the short bus gets here.

I have to comment, this goes on daily all across America, in our politically correct goo goo world the "cover up" the "slobbering" the "a$s kissing" the phony I love you make believe slopping for minoritys over the white communty is disgusting.

    Example:
Minority kills a whitey then says "he hates whitey" reaction....shhhhhhhhhh

Whitey kills a minority then says "he hates minorities" FRONT PAGE DAILY FOR TEN YEARS.

I always take a man for what he is not what this double standard dishonest phony left wing liberal politically correct insane society tries to ram into my personal life.

I have 11 grand-children two of them are married to minoritys, the day I met them the first thing I said to them was "please don't start any of that bullsh!t with me" they both immediately knew what I meant, they are now part of my family.

On more than one occasiona I have made a reply very much in line with this forum's standards to a Patters post only to see that reply completely disappear next time I logged on. Censorship is alive and well from the left.

You're the last person who should be complaining about the decorum on this board and ad hominem attacks out of nowhere.

Not that you need it, but you have my complete support in closing threads that aren't truly aimed at honest discussions of racism.

Are there examples of racism AGAINST caucasians? In all likehood, there are many. But it pales in comparison to the millions of examples of racism committed by white Americans toward various races & religions.

America is NOT a white or a christian country, so let's not allow discussions that support such idiocy.

Yes, I whole-heartedly agree with Patters on this and I appreciate his efforts. The only meaningful discussions of racism involve people of many races...not a bunch of white men & women on a football board.

I have always contended that this is a deficit, nothing quite like a bunch of anonymous men and women, just about all of whom are white... discussing racism, it would be a much richer conversation if there were truly diverse voices and experiences..

But, I think some of us have some valid experiences. Being gay, I have the experience of being a minority. Growing up in the Bronx, in my formative years all my friends were black, and then my family moved to conservative white racist suburb of NY. I also lived for a few years not far from Mission Hill, and spent a lot of time experiencing during cultures while I lived overseas. I'd be curious to know if others in this forum have real experience as a minority, with minorities, or even experiencing a culture other than ours. It would be better if we had more blacks, women, and others, but not everybody enjoys the sort of futility we seem to enjoy.

Are you sure these comments of yours actually made it up? The management has struggled over the years in keeping up with demand. If you didn't see it posted, it may never have made it up. I ask because I've called Patters, FTW, and Michael terrible moderators on more than one occasion. I went so far as to call one of them something that was boorish enough to get me a warning and AFAIK its still somewhere on the site's hard drive.

No matter what you say, it is like comparing raisins to grapefruit... worked around poor people of color my whole, I understand them pretty well, but I am not them and have not shared the "private" moments...

I have a daughter who is mixed race, she has had some issues with her darker skin... but I would beg the issue and lie if I pretended to know what she experienced in her life..

I think racism. is moronic. If the sun blew up tomorrow and none of us could see eachother I'm pretty sure everyone here would judge others by what they said or how they acted rather than what they look like, since they wouldn't be able to see them.

The best example is that I have no idea for the most part what race or nationality anyone on this board is, and I have to say that the vast majority of people here are great people and have been terrific to talk to. That wouldn't change if I met them in person and I found out they weren't white. I mean really - does it matter? It all comes down to who you are as a person - not what you look like. For anyone out there who is really that ignorant, if you're not willing to look beyond a person's race or skin color before getting to know them as a person - I truly believe there is little help for you, and it's actually sad because odds are pretty good you'll never get to know some really great people. Your loss.

Hating people because they're gay or because of their religion is also stupid. I had no idea Patters was gay before he finally said something - it doesn't change my opinion of him. There could be other members on this forum who are gay as well, along with other people who are of different religions. It doesn't change who they are to me as a friend or a member here. I'd take 10 really great gay friends over 10 heterosexual friends who really aren't my friend or only care about themselves. In the end that's all that matters.

Sorry...this is a frustrating topic for me having met so many great people on here over the years. I strongly disagree with hateful people, and truthfully if you honestly disagree with any of the above, let me know and I'll gladly disable your account.

I basically agree with you, but I don't think you give yourself enough credit. I'm sure you have some sense of what it must be like for her. I have a half black great-nephew, and he turned 9 about the same time Obama won. Nine is a critical age for kids because that's when they become conscious of their race. I was so happy Obama won because he now believes the idea of black president is normal, so the world's his oyster. He can aspire to whatever he wants to be.

And you have mixed race daughter! Just the fact that you know she has issues with her darker skin is a privilege, as that is not an issue that people of color easily share. It's something I've only read about, and it's one of those great secrets imbued with shame and foisted on people of color by institutional racism.
