4/43m for Champ with 15m guaranteed. The market has been set. Look for Namdhi to demand 5/75 with 20m guaranteed at the least.

What the HELL????? Are they out of their minds? This is worse than an Al Davis type of move. So many things wrong with this.

This could crush the Nmandi Asomugha dream. Thats the max I would of offered to him, and hes the best CB in the league his prime. Hell get an insane contract...

It's a bad contract, but it's not insane at first blush. It's comparable to what Woodson's getting:

...The 33-year-old Woodson signed a five-year contract that is worth as much as $55 million, a person familiar with the deal told the Associated Press.

The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because financial details of the contract were not released, said Woodson can make $20 million in advances and bonuses and about $33.5 million in the first three years of the new deal.

The key to both deals is the year where the contracts essentially become just options. The only info we have right now tells us that Bailey's really got a 2 year deal here, because we don't get a read on any guarantees/buybacks/options in the last two seasons. If the back two years have solid lock-ins and the new CBA does have salary caps cuts, though, the deal could be a killer in years 3-4.

Ah all good fantasy material; let's put the blinders on an imagine that only the Patriots would be interested in this guy but the sad reality is that superior/shutdown CBs are about the most coveted commodity in the NFL.

If it was possible...definitely YES. It would force teams to throw to McCourty's side until they could not take the turnovers anymore; it would basically shutdown the WR position and free up 1-2 safeties to blitz.

Will never happen but oh man if it did....

McCourty would get 13 picks next season if Nnamdi were on the opposite side but we're not gonna pay QB money for Asomugha. pipe dream.

Patriots (2004)

You might note that there aren't a lot of "superior/shutdown" corners among those SB winning teams.

11 million a year for a 33 year old CB wow... the NFL is turning into the MLB fast

What a fine deal for Denver.
1) He will take a $2 pay cut for his services in 2011.
2) The team will pay $4M for 3-year option for his services at about $10M a year. When he isn't worth it, he wqill be cut.

There's no cut. He was a free agent.

Nitpicking is an art at which you excel.

Bailey is being paid $2M less in 2011 than in 2010. I called that a "cut" in compensation.

It's not nitpicking. You take a cut if you've got a contract and agree to a lower salary to stay.

What Bailey did was sign a free agent contract for less money per year than he was getting previously. He's going to be a 33 year old cornerback making $11+ million per year, which is the same basic money that Charles Woodson got with his extension, but for one less year:

The 33-year-old Woodson signed a five-year contract that is worth as much as $55 million, a person familiar with the deal told the Associated Press.

In other words, he got fair market value for a top level 33 year old cornerback, in terms of annual salary. And given that your posts often get into the nitpicking, along with the passive-aggressive forms of responses, tossing out that line at me was somewhat hypocritical on your part.

Imagine by the time Mccourty is a FA if he continues to progress.

A 27 year old shutdown CB, possibly the best CB in the league by then, how much will he want?

Good thing thats four years away. :D
