I noticed in Santorum's speech tonight that he backed off of some of his more pointed comments to blacks and welfare recepients although Newt was still his adamant old-self, insisting that Obama is a "food stamp president."

I wonder if the letter addressed to them from 40 of the top US Catholic leaders and theologians had anything to do with Rick's toned down rhetoric?

Perhaps said leaders should note that Gingrich wants people to have jobs and a future so they don't need the program and a life mired in poverty.

Dems want the poverty since the dependent at a source of votes and a group they can scare every 2 years. Many think it's a tragedy when this many people need this help, YMMV.

Perhaps said Gingrich-supporters should note that's what everyone, including Obama and the Democrats, also want....they just don't want them to starve to death before it happens - nor do they make rash and untrue statements accusing them of causing it themselves due to poor work ethics and laziness.

Perhaps Mr. Gingrich should be aware, the next time he drags out his tired old story about poor children never seeing anyone get up and go to work in the morning, that 41% of all food stamp recipients live in a household where the family members are employed.

Well the result of the policies is what count not the so called noble intentions, see Gingrich and others are focused on the results not the intentions of the policies.

BTW I haven't heard Gingrich call most people who are forced to rely on these policies lazy. I call BS, do you have a specific quote for your smear?

If you are referring to the kids working at their schools.....that is a case where he feels that children are acquiring the skills associated with doing a job and being in the private sector. Not having a skill isn't being lazy.

So how many millions are in the households where people don't have a job and children don't see family members go to work, ie the other 59%. After all under Obama we have 15% unemployed (including those that have lost benefits).

Policies that create jobs is what is needed not policies that create jobs in Brazil and Canada to benefit China (ie Obama energy policy)

Reality is far more important than wishes, wants and desires. It ultimately determines all results.

heavy stuff, huh? Stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.... :D

We all need to be a little more REALISTIC on this board.

BTW...isn't the term "Catholic leaders" an oxymoron? Nice that they state their opinion....this message brought to you by the people who covered up for child molesters.

I don't see a word about "skills," here, do you?

Let's try to break it down another way for you, 13. Since you seem to assume that all food stamp and/or welfare recipients are able bodied adults.

No child has ever received a single food stamp MrsP. Only their parent(s) are eligible for them. So let's keep our discussion to those who recieve them directly (i.e. adults).

Is/are the parents of the children "able-bodied"? So what's the number when children are removed from the equation?

Fine, then decrease the number of people on food stamps by 50% since over half of those counted as recipients are just that - children.

Again, you are speaking in absolutes - which don't exist. Many children receive food stamps and other benefits although their parents or guardians do not. Foster kids, for example. Children with disabilities. Any child involved in a "kinship care" relationship is eligible and the income of the "kin" caring for the child is not taken into consideration.

Jobs are better than food stamps, a man feels better about himself if he has a job to get up and go to in the morning and he certainly feels better on a Friday night, jobs have to be created, who provides jobs, most jobs are provided by "the hated rich person" the thriving business provides the jobs, a perosn who owns a business becomes wealthy then the larger his business becomes the more jobs he provides, the people he hires have no need for food stamps or government handouts, keep the filthy f-cking government out of your home, get up and get a job, kick all illegal aliens out, punish company's that hire them, give those jobs to "the food stamp people".

Do they have "food stamps" in Singapore-------------

Food stamps are for the really needy, the honest down and out person, he would feel a lot better about himself if you would find him a job.

Clean the f-cking country up, justice and equality for all.

Buy a gun, keep it loaded.

So much so, why doesn't he release the 1,000 page confidential ethics investigation that was authored by a Bipartisan Congressional Committee.. those would be some nice results so we can truly judge his intentions.. vette this man.
