Its almost an inevitable thing that during his tenure with his team, the starting QB gets injured if not for a few plays then maybe a week or two or even the entire season

According to Sirius radio,Reports are out that although its unconfirmed, the Patriots may be one of the 3 teams interested in Daunte Culpepper and for the Patriots it would probably be for veteran presence and to which is obviously nothing more than insurance for Brady's position for 2nd or 3rd string QB.

If he somehow is signed,In case of emergency at the QB Position who would you rather have as a replacement? - Culpepper who is a veteran QB but has some minor injury issues that still remain? or Cassell who is an unproven QB in this league but has been at Tom Brady's side for a few years.

Which would make you feel more comfortable?.
Would your opinion change between it just being a few plays while Brady gets the cobwebs out of his head and an entire season situation?

(I did not mention Guiterrez because he would likely not be in the plans regardless)

    Matt Cassel, no question.

Culpepper couldn't even make it to training camp with a team that hasn't had a good QB since Marino.

I would agree with Cassell because he has been in this system for a few years...If Cassell were just a free agent we signed I don't know which way I would have gone with this issue,But experience in the Patriots system is a much favorable advantage .

Plus Cassel has two healthy legs and can actually read a defense.

Culpepper. Without a doubt. Cassel hasn't started a game since high school, Culpepper, three years ago, put up the second best season for a QB in history. Of course, alot of that had to do with his top receiver, but, um...

He may have 2 healthy legs right now...As far as reading a defense you need to be in there for several games before annointing him that talent of being able to.

What?? Culpepper couldn't beat out Cleo Lemon and you have him starting over Cassell? Culpeppers confidence is gone, when he did play for the Phins you could see him dodging defenders like he was afraid of getting hit. When was the last time Culpepper did anything? He had his HOF year in 2004, then in 2005 he regressed and looked like a rookie. This happened BEFORE he was injured. He had a 72 rating with 6 TD & 12 INT's.

Cassell without a doubt. He knows the system, is younger, can run if needed and has learned how to read D's and stay cool under pressure from the best QB of our time.

Culpepper. If the nightmare scenario were to occur, we need a QB who can ease into the situation as smoothly as possible. Culpepper is a vet and he can manage a dumbed down version of our offense. Cassel hasn't exactly set the world on fire during his preseason starts and also nerves would be a problem.

Re: Cassell or Culpepper,,,if Brady were to get injured...

The coaching staff loves him and he has pretty much followed Tom around trying to emulate him in any way he can. Those are my first two clues that this guy mentally has what it takes to be a quarterback. From everything I've heard about Culpepper, he does not mentaly have what it takes. He was only successful in Scott Linehan's system and that was because he broke down Culpeppers read to make them much simpler (plus he had Randy Moss.) They are not going to do that for the QB who comes in if, God forbid, Tom Brady went down.

Obviously he hasn't gotten a lot of playing time, but in his limited time he has been impressive and poised. He's taken a few plays each time he plays to ease in, but then looks very comfortable. Culpepper, on the other hand, has been a disaster in his limited playing time over the last few years.

There's way, way too much love for Cassel on this board. First people speculating that the Patriots could trade him to a contending team (Atlanta) for a 1st or 2nd rounder, thinking they'd use him as a starter, and then saying that if the Patriots had Daunte Culpepper, they'd use Cassel instead.

Cassel is a project and remains as such. If BB felt confident with Cassel as the starter, he wouldn't have brought in Testaverde last year, and Vinny's about 84 and looked god awful the last time he had the ball in his hands (and I always thought Vinny was the scariest QB in the league because of how he could suddenly go hot and tear apart any team, even at the age of 40).

Why would you add the baggage of a Culpepper, a QB whose value is less than his present contract if there ever was one? This is a team that understands value right down to the water cooler. Unless Culpepper plays for less than Cassell and undergoes a lobotomy, I see this as nothing more than an attempt to sell words.

Even if he played for free, not sure the team would welcome the distraction.

I do agree with many observations of Culpeppers career that his earlier success in this league was in fact made from a player who he was fortunate to play with - his name was Randy Moss

If you had watched earlier films of Dauntes career you could see many balls he threw that would have been overthrown to most receivers but Randy was a special young athlete then who could grab a high ball and bring it down.

Chris Carter didn't hurt in drawing coverage to free up Moss, either. Culpepper had some good targets in his early Viking days . . .

Re: Cassell or Culpepper,,,if Brady were to get injured...

Since when does bringing in a third QB mean anything???????????? They brought Testaverde in because they had an open roster spot, didn't have a third QB, and Testaverde is a good veteran prescence to have.

That's like saying they didn't have confidence in Brady because they had Cassel and Testaverde on the roster.

Cassel has looked very good in preseason but I'm not saying he's anything great or anything. I just think he is better than Culpepper, particularly for this offense, and I don't think that position is unreasonable.

Culpepper sucked even when he was supposed to be hot property, I'd rather take a chance on Matt with Vinny to back him up than waste time on Culpepper.

If all goes well, Cassell will have ample opportunity to get some meaningful playing time in the pre-season games. He should confirm the fact that he's a capable #2 this summer.

I'd even go that one better and take the other Matt ahead of Culpepper...and I haven't even seen him on a football field in my life. And after that I'd hunt down Rohan as my 5th QB.

Culpepper did not get cut because he could notbeat out Cleo Lemmon. he's gone becuase they don't wnat to pay him starter money to sit on the bench.

Still I'd rather have Cassell. I don't think he is a hidden All Pro whithering on the bench, but i think he, more than anyone knows that. if he finds himself playing meaningful minutes he will be a game manager. Culpepper has a lot of baggege and a chip on his shoulder to prove he could still be a starter-recipe for poor decisions.
