Incidently, I am very impressed with Belichick in how he handled this problem. Many a Coach would have interviewed and signed a couple of QBs. By that action, he would have demonstrated a vote of "No Confidence" in Matt Cassel.
Instead, Bill decided to prove that he had confidence in Matt. He has apparently resigned Gutz, but even here, he carefully and merely put him on the PS.
Cassel now does not have to look over his shoulder every play, to see if he is being replaced. After a few games, Bill wil probably sign a backup QB, but Cassel will by that time have shown whether he has it or not. Even if he has lost a couple of games, as Brady did in 2001, and might be probable. If Cassel is maintaining his poise, Matt will still be THE Man for 2008.
