I thought the Board might enjoy this cartoon from the NYDaily News today, titled "Taking the Kid to School."

Suffice it to say that the Jets fans I know down here are about as humiliated as they could be this week and this kind of sums up how a lot of them feel.

    Awww ain't it cute?

    #75 Jersey

Could have subsitituted BB and Rexy there (put him in little chubby overalls and one of those helicopter beanies).

I think I'll email that suggestion to Bill Gallo! Good one!

It is, especially in light of the NFL having that program where wide eyed grade schoolers get to take a bonefide NFL player to school...

Tannenbaum is good at accumulating perceived talent. Rex is good at attracting and motivating it via inflated pep talk that fluffs everyone's egos and builds expectations. But at the end of the day that is not what teambuilding is, although for PR purposes it's what Woody perceives teambuilding to be.

Winning championships is a lot tougher than any of those guys or the players Rex's bravado attracts or that fan base that annually falls for their overhyped promises cares to acknowledge. It's also an organizational philosophy that starts from the top down with accountability (which encompasses a genuine modicam of humility that balances steadfastness in maintaining the courage of your convictions). Beyond not being ready, that was why BB strongly advised Eric to not fall for the bait. Eventually everybody not named Johnson or Hess, and particularly the QB and/or the HC/OC/DC, becomes a scapegoat target to deflect responsibility away from ownership mismanagement in the #1 sports media market. Despite backing into the playoffs and even the AFCC last season, The Sanchise and Buddy's blowhard kid are now lined up as primary targets. They'll each have another season to plead their case, but with a cap returning and lots of aging veterans and potential draft busts and pending FA dragging on the payroll this was their best shot at beating the odds they were the new faces fronting the Same Old Jets.

Gotta love how one bright young man turned down their offer to let him play safety in the NFL yesterday because he believed his job as a train conductor would provide better security for his family... I think a little of the bloom has worn off the 2010 Tubby Wrecks BS fueled version of the JETS revealing all it ever was is the SOJ's BS as always...

Great cartoon, but have always lived by the philosophy of not to antagonize publicly the sleeping bear..

Exactly. I would have set the scene with BB driving the car and Brady on the passenger side, and have the two kids in their car seats (Rex and Sanchize) in the back seat waiting outside school...but this was ok too...

We all know Brady is the better quarterback, and we've been ragging on the Jets all season, but we better remember this was just one game. Not only are the Jets 9-3, one of those wins came against us. They are a force to be reckoned with.

Well said. And, as someone living in the heart of Manhattan, I can tell you that the lesson is starting to dawn on the more intelligent of their fans (a small number, I grant you).

Sunday's game vs. Miami is huge for these guys. I'm sure they'll come out all hyped...maybe even over-hyped like they were on Monday. But, if the Fins go up a score or two and Sanchez throws a pick at the wrong time, they'll start to hear the boos. Unless they knock Miami off the field in the first half, I think that a four game losing streak is not out of the question, with their next two games @Steelers and @Da Bears.

    Too bad, ain't it?

He could do a whole series including BB (or his protogee GM's Pioli and Dimetroff) taking Tannenbaum to school, not to mention Bob Kraft escorting Woody Johnson to the principals office...

    Shotty, Jr. and BOB

    Woodhead and LdT...LOL

    BGJE and McKnight...

    McCourty and Wilson...

Happy to do it. The core fan base is still with them, but it's just a game or two away from booing them off the field and Gallo is usually viewed as the big-hearted gentleman of the NY Tabloid press.

I'll tell ya, I've lived in the Apple for over 20 years now and I haven't seen as disappointed and humiliated a fan base since the Knicks lost the NBA finals. As someone else posted yesterday, the NYTimes had the headline all ready: The end of the Dynasty.

The Jets were supposed to go into Foxboro and validate the boasting and hype that's been going on since they signed all those FA's and set their sights on Dallas. People really believed that they were going to do just that.

If I thought there was any chance that the Pats would take these guys lightly the next time they met them and if I thought there was any chance that the Pats weren't already 100% focused on beating Chicago this Sunday, I wouldn't have posted it.

And, I disagree with your analogy.

The Jets have not yet earned the right to be compared to a sleeping bear. Seven of their nine wins are against teams with losing records, as has been recorded often out here. Right now, they're more like a sleeping kittycat (I had originally written ***** cat, but the screen doesn't like *****, I guess); sure they have claws and could hurt you, but if you're ready for it, you don't get scratched.

    #12 Jersey

Sound philosophy providing that the sleeping creature is, in fact, a bear and not a pussycat.

I think my sig sums it up about best... I do not fear the Jets, but when you win this big on the big stage, humility is often the best way to proceed and to move on to the next game.

To bloviate about the win is folly.. on any given Sunday, shyt can happen.. see Baltimore last year or Cleveland a couple of weeks ago. Just focus on what you need to do for the next game...

Not sure if the Jets are a bear or a sleeping kitty, does not make any difference.. but never believed in giving the other team bulletin board material...

Well, I guess you're just a better man than I am...I'm bloviating this week and I'm enjoying it. Back to business on Sunday. I live in Manhattan and I have had to listen to the Jet's **** since March.

Well, the Pats didn't publish the cartoon, and they had all moved onto the Bears once they stepped off the field on Monday night. It's just us fans that are bloviating. But, moving on to Mike Martz and Jay Cutler is the right move now in this short week.

Does Martz still stick to the game plan whether it's working or not?

Agree. The cartoon was published by the homeriest of the homer NY Tabloids. But on to Da Bears.

It'll be interesting at the pre-game presser to see how Belichick tries to get into Martz' head. Is this the first time they've faced each other in some capacity since SB XXXVI?
