What's the word on Cannon's activation? When does the descision have to be made if he goes IR or gets activated?

Maybe not a gameday question...but sure would like to see him get some gameday experience this year.....it will pay dividends next year. :)

A player that starts the regular season on PUP must sit out his team's first six games (which Cannon already did). After that point a team has three weeks to start having the player practice (which the Pats have done); once the player begins practicing, the team has another three weeks to put the player on the active roster. If the player is not activated by that time (or if he does not begin practicing within that three week window, which is not the case here) he must remain on the PUP list (or go on IR) for the remainder of the season.

With all that legalese out of the way, I believe the bottom line is that the Pats will not need to make a decision on Cannon until after the Jets game. Cannon started practicing on the October 25 if I'm not mistaken, which would make the deadline to activate him November 15.

Was he on PUP or nonfootball related injury, and is there any difference in the rules if he was?

I don't see him coming out of the PuP unless one of the O linemen gets injured. I think they will probably give him 1-2 games of reps and then IR him.

Good point; it was NFI and not PUP. However, I am fairly certain the rules about the window to activate him once he began practicing are the same.

Yes he was on NFI (cancer is obviously not related to football), and yes the rules are the same.

My belief is that if he is not activated for the Jets game, he will go to IR.

If Cannon were on the 53, he'd be inactive. Our game day backups are Solder and Wendell. Solder alternates with Vollmer, and is also a short yardage TE. Wendell backup both guard and center, having started for us in both positions.

I have no problems with adding Cannon to the roster. However, I wouldn't expect him to be active, absent an injury to the top 7. And he wouldn't get any serious number of reps without there being two injuries.

I see him staying on PUP, and being activated only if there is an injury in the next couple of weeks.

The bottom line is that Cannon is not an upgrade over Solder or Wendell. And, ath this point, Cannon isn't a upgrade over Thomas. It seems unlikely that a couple of weeks of pratice on the 3rd team is going to help this situation much.

I dont think we need to open up a spot for him as ...we have needs in other areas..for any spots...so he stays on IR and BB figures who else to glue in there :p

Umm, I think he can at least take the inactive spot being "held down" by Donald Thomas. . . .

I would trade roster spots for those two in a heart beat.

Opps. Lol. Meant to say, I would swap roster spot. Cannon for Thomas in the active roster.

    20 Hours and counting

And there is still no hint as to wether Cannon is in or out for the rest of the year. I for one would like to see the deapth on the OL and have him get some reps this year.

    Re: 20 Hours and counting

    He'll be on the roster.

The return date for Ventrone's playbook is tomorrow and he can't afford the late charges. :D

    Re: 20 Hours and counting

I don't understand the 20 hours and counting..?

The deadline by which he is to be activated or IR'ed is tomorrow at 4pm, I believe.

I hope he will be activated. Our OL is banged up.

Having him on the active roster will help his development for next season. Having a young player in the pipeline with his potential bodes well for the future of the Pats OL ....Vollmer,Solder and Cannon give them 3 youngsters that can be a solid foundation in the near future.....Now if they can find Koppen's replacement they will be all set....Not sure DC is the long term answer to Center altho it looks like he's not a HUGE downgrade at the position...OL and depth should be set for the near future.....Matt Light can retire without leaving a huge hole....

Rebuilding on the go and still being at the top is a good sign....

Seriously, though, if they activate Cannon (which I hope they do), it'll most likely be at the expense of Donald Thomas, who isn't being activated anyways.

FWIW, didn't someone post here that BB felt Cannon might even be able to play C? [Not saying we should pin our hopes on it, merely that BB hasn't ruled it out.]
