I will keep this in mind the next time one of our neighbors to the north criticizes something in the US. To me this is unexplanable and inexcusable.

Ex-coach Graham James pardoned for sex abuse that rocked NHL - The Globe and Mail

“A pardon does not erase a person's criminal record, but it means the information is kept in a separate file and doesn't show up on checks of the Canadian Police Information Centre, a key law-enforcement database used by the RCMP and other police forces.
In the case of someone convicted of serious sex offences, the criminal record is kept apart from others, but the name is flagged in the CPIC system. According to the parole board, that means details of the person's conviction would be discovered by a check that takes place if they apply to work with children, the disabled or other vulnerable people. “

I think it's called "insanity" and the whole world suffers from it.

I'm so sick of child abusers and sex offenders being let out of jail, pardoned, excused, covered up, forgiven, etc. etc. etc.

I downloaded an app for my IPhone a few months ago with I was visiting my grandkids in Chicago - it's a "sex offender locator." I didn't expect much, I really didn't, I don't know why, but I didn't. My son and I just did it on a lark, more or less....Kind of a "let's see what an IPhone can do," kind of moment.

Cripes, there were pages of offenders listed in a 5 mile area. Pages of them. It's set to work using "your location" so it automatically uses whatever address you're at to start from. There are pages of them in every location I've even used it in. Big cities, small towns, suburbs, rural areas, midwest America, Southern America, East Coast America.

Mutterfuggers are everywhere. Even next door.

None of this is right, but did you realize he has been on the streets since 2000... and this pardon took place three years ago.. it seems as though the standards are very lax in their pardon system..

That is about a .75% rate that you will be turned down if you apply, not bad odds....

and if he applies to be a hockey coach again, if they don't consider hockey players to be a vulnerable group, whoever hires him, won't know of his past conduct.

What a terrible thing this guy had a position of authority and used it to exploit and ruin the lives of a lot of yourg kids.Every bit as bad as the abuse coverups by the Church, here however the government is letting the abuser off the hook disgraceful.

I take great comfort and satisfaction in knowing that this man will never rest in peace in this world or the next. And great hope in the thought that he will have to look over his shoulder everywhere he goes hoping to catch a glimpse of the knife or gun with his name on it.....

    To me, that's priceless.

Do not understand your point, in reality a lot of folks slip through the sex offender registry thing whether it be the US or Canada.. just because they are part of the registry, does not mean they have to comply.. there are a lot of folks wandering around who are not being monitored.. it is a numbers game.

In this case he should not be coaching, but anyone who has a similar offense has to like the odds of getting a pardon..

As he is well known, there may be some difficulty in obtaining employment in this field.

Cripes, Spain already hired him for 3 years to coach their National Team and they KNEW about his past conduct.

Canada, apparently, according to the article, has banned him from coaching for life.

Maybe you didn't read the part where he's already been coaching a team in Spain.

I doubt very highly that he's been "looking over his shoulder," or that he's had too very much difficulty resting peacefully.

They can't even find him, fer cryin out loud. He's probably living (what he considers) the good life in some small town somewhere - coaching young boys to his heart's content.

That "catching a glimpse of the knife or gun with his name on it" is simply drama, PR. There are millions of sex offenders walking around - how often do you read about any of them being gunned down?

Not to say it doesn't occasionally happen - but the odds against it happening are astronomical, to say the least. I'm pretty sure sex offenders know this -otherwise they'd be afraid to move next door to you - and they aren't afraid.

It just makes it easier for him to slip through undetected....

I agree, think of all of the people with much less notoriety and facial recognition who freely move in our communities and continue to offend, whether it be in the clergy, YMCA, coaching, Boy Scouts or any other setting.. their personna has to do with compulsion .. and they are sneaky as hell.

I have little hope for sex offenders, and many have been convicted of one offense.. but bet you there at least a hundred other victims who choose to remain silent.

Canada is notorious for having a lax and unbalanced justice system. Rural Canada is even worse. Unfortunately, this story doesn't shock me at all.

My wife and I check the local list every now and then.

Only the upper 2 levels are searchable here in RI.

A few years ago ... a friend I had was a arrested for dabbling in child porn swapping.

I'm generally a great judge of character and I was floored by it as well as others who knew him.

It's so easy to call these people creeps ... but sometimes they are just like the rest of us.

These lists are a great thing because some of these people blend in very, very well.

They are. The one I've got on my phone is pretty good in that it tells you what they were convicted of. I sometimes feel bad for the people who have to register who were busted for things like public indecency because they got drunk and whipped it out and peed on someone's bushes or something like that.

Agreed. I've seen people put up there for some marginal reasons. It dilutes the purpose of the database.
