Can we stop the run?

All I have heard was maximum 8 weeks. Maybe 6. Bruschi might miss the first 2 games.

BUT....

I agree with you Ray. My new opinion is to move Vrabel inside for the up the gut, and have a TBC/Chad Brown/Woods/Mincey on one edge of the defense. All they would have to do is set the edge and redirect the flow of the offense back up the middle. As far as the middle, Eric Alexander seemed the best reservist to me. I think that would shore it up.

I'm not terribly worried about it. Cassell played the whole game ... it looks like 2 QB this year on the roster. Perhaps we are going to go with 2 kickers. Ghost as a KO specialist/XP for awhile, and Grammatica for the FG. And how about Willie Andrews. He plays PR/KR/gunner/CB. That's a lot of spots.

Game plans.

Wonderful things they are, they help keep you from panic when things look gloomy.

I wonder if we could get Kendrell Bell from KC for a package of Beisel and picks. Bell has been a big dissapointment and they love Beisel. Bell needs to be an ilb in a 3-4 system like he was in Pitt when he was defensive ROY.

LOL, it is easy to forget that one of our main strengths, the game plan, is effectively unused in preseason.

I saw the same thing from Beisel over and over again last year.
People were convinced he got better at the end of last year but I didn't see it. Gaining 8 pounds? A year in the system and he'll improve? These were just illusions. Beisel is not a starter on any team. His demotion to second team shows BB thinks the same as us.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.... Easy, big fella. BB may eventually demote or bench Beisel, but calm down. It's one pre-season game. Basing anything on it - even your analysis of BB's alleged depth-chart - is really premature. If Beisel continues to look like he hasn't "gotten it," then I'll join you, but it is way, way, WAY too early for prnouncements like this.

I'm no Doctor either...but I did spend 17 weeks in a cast after breaking my left scaphoid. It is a very bad injury and the healing is difficult because the fracture normally disrupts the blood flow to the bone. This happened fifteen years ago, so hopefully medical advances can shorten the healing process.

Players. Essential things that make the tackles that make game plans work.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if game plans could shed blocks and make tackles?

Beisel looked like SXXX tonight - I was really hoping to see a huge improvement over last year in his case.[/QUOTE said:
I know Beisel dropped a pass the tedy would have handled with 1 hand , but it's too early to toss him aside. All reports indicate he has finaly learned the system.

Can we stop the run? In a word NO.

On the positive side I thought the first unit O line and RBs looked great. And Brady is Brady (please stay healthy, Rohan Cassel needs to improve). Maroney has serious wheels.

The bad news... just like Groundhog day...
I know, I know, way too early to panic and Bill & Co. know all but....
The past two off seasons they have done little to improve our defense. I guess we can keep trying Gardner, Beisel, Izzo, Davis (please feel free to add to this list) but the reality is that MLB is a weakness of the team, I can't see Vrabel lasting long on the outside if the ILBs continue to wave arms at running backs who are 5 yards past the LOS. Can we end the Beisel era? I was on his side hoping he had turned the corner until I saw him "play" last night. As Bruschi has said stopping the run is a mindset and Monty just doesn't have it.

Maybe one of the yound guys can move to the outside and Vrabel move back in but seems like a more prudent approach would be to have someone who can actually play the position on the roster.

Also the secondary seems to be made up off a bunch of B- to C players, no true top end talent.

My disapointment is magnified because the Pats are in the middle of their window of opportunity will so many players in their prime an addition here or there would have really helped this team. As it stands now I think we will score a lot, an awful lot but won't be able to stop anyone. We all know how that worked for Indy...

Go Pats, more "expert" analysis to come through out the season.

I'm no football PHD, but isn't our scheme designed to funnel the run inside to our ILBs?

Given our current personnel, do you see a problem with this scheme?

Ray, if Vrabel moves in I think it could work.

Colvin...........Vrabel............Bruschi...........Chad Brown/TBC/FA

Maybe even one of the rookies can rotate that one edge position and funnel things inside. My prediction is that Eric Alexander rises to the top of the ILB chart.

Besides, half the time that edge position would be off the field and a nickel back would be in.
