Can teams actually do this on kickoffs in the playoffs?

It's a pretty hazardous play, and you need to be pretty certain you can execute it, because the failure to do so could lead to a turnover. You get about 1 second.

out bounds set up the Plaintiffs for the winning drive against h Panthers in the Super Bowl? It was a horrible kick.

Yup. Kasay kicked it out of bounds after the Panthers tied it up. Very nice of him.
 
I remember this was mentioned in Adrian Peterson's rookie season!

It was a KO and he took the return and the momentum took him OoB! The announcers then said that if he had took a step OoB and then caught it, the ball would be on the 40 and not the 6!
