This country is so over. Resistence is futile! [IMG]

U.S. Hispanic population to triple by 2050

By Haya El Nasser, USA TODAY

The U.S. population will soar to 438 million by 2050 and the Hispanic population will triple, according to projections released Monday by the Pew Research Center. The latest projections by the non-partisan research group are higher than government estimates to date and paint a portrait of an America dramatically different from today's.

The projected growth in the U.S. population — 303 million today — will be driven primarily by immigration among all groups except the elderly. "We're assuming that the rate of immigration will stay roughly constant," says Jeffrey Passel, co-author of the report.

Even if immigration is limited, Hispanics' share of the population will increase because they have higher birth rates than the overall population. That's largely because Hispanic immigrants are younger than the nation's aging baby boom population. By 2030, all 79 million boomers will be at least 65 and the elderly will grow faster than any other age group.

The projections show that by 2050:

•Nearly one in five Americans will have been born outside the USA vs. one in eight in 2005. Sometime between 2020 and 2025, the percentage of foreign-born will surpass the historic peak reached a century ago during the last big immigration wave. New immigrants and their children and grandchildren born in the USA will account for 82% of the population increase from 2005 to 2050.

    Excellent (and ridiculously frightening) article.

Folks, THIS is why I tell people that immigration is far and away the #1 issue facing our country right now. 50 years from now, Iraq is going to be nothing more than history's footnote. Our current "recession" will be a blip long since forgotten. And hardly a soul will be able to answer the question "Who was George W. Bush's Vice President?"

But the demographics of our nation is an issue of primary importance. It is the #1 issue our nation faces.

    RW,
Its probably the same over in Chelsea, I was visiting in Cambridge last summer and drove through my old play ground Central Square, it looked like Bangladesh or Somalia, I read the Cambridge Papers every week and there are at least two or three shootings there a month, back in the fifties we used to visit friends in the Washington Elms (housing project) we all sat outside until one or two in the morning, drank beer and ate hot dogs while all the kids played and ran around the streets, now as soon as it gets dark the Guns come out, the kids are dragged into the apartment and the windows and door are bolted.

The damn liberals say they never want to go back :confused:

What delusions..? Oh, wait, I think I know what your mistake is... you must think I am a Republican. Well here's a newsflash for you: I am not a Republican. I am a Conservative. There's a big difference and you should never, ever confuse the two.

I despise the Bush adminstration's policies regarding immigration (and McCain's too), so you certainly aren't going to hurt my feelings by being critical of any pandering he may have done while campaigning. Feel free to bash away.

I voted for many, many candidates in 2000 and 2004, as well as in 2002 and 2006. Too many to bother listing here.

It's 2008, and virtually every American is foreign-descended.

Get a grip. We have always been a country of immigrants.

Well HB, Chelsea's pretty much been a dump since I was a kid. The noticable differences are in the surrounding cities like Everett, Revere, and East Boston. EB might be the worst. It's virtually a foreign country (or an extension of Chelsea). Immigration should always be controlled. This invasion will put the final nail in this country's sovereign coffin. :(

True, but we have not always been a county of illegal immigrants. The immigration policies of 100 years ago that have made this the greatest nation on Earth are long gone and hard to find.
