Butch Stearns: Rivers MAY have torn ACL, or not [mergedx2]

Re: Butch Stearns: Rivers has torn ACL [mergedx2]

An angle to the Charger/Colt game that got little attention around here was Tomlinson getting in Rivers face on the sidelines about Rivers not going back into the Indy game after hurting his knee. This as Latisha herself sat out the game with a knee that suffered NO structural damage and was ruled a hyperextenion. This is why the Chargers will never win as long as selfish me fiirst creeps like LT are the "leaders" on that team.
Powder blue is a perfect color for Tomlinson.

gotta link for this? or is this more conjecture. In other news, drug addict randy moss hit a woman and wouldnt let her leave.

Re: Butch Stern on WEEI just said

Thats because you dont know anything about football.

Billy Volek doesnt have half the arm Rivers does.

Brady didn't have the arm that Bledsoe did. There is a hell of a lot more to being a great NFL QB than having a big arm.

So, before you tell people that they don't know anything about football, I suggest that you gain a little knowledge yourself.

Re: Butch Stearns: Rivers has torn ACL [mergedx2]

It's a sprained MCL nothing more. You can't run or play with a torn ACL.

Don't tell that to Dennis Dixon from Oregon. He played with a torn ACL at Arizona on a Thursday night in November, granted he ended up leaving the game. If it's only a partial ACL tear, Rivers would likely take the risk and play on it.

DIXON’S ACL INJURY COMMON AMONG ATHLETES
By Tim Christie
"But few athletes attempt to do what Dixon did Thursday against Arizona — play quarterback for a high-powered college offense just 12 days after suffering a torn ACL.

Dixon is no ordinary athlete, as anyone who has watched him play hide-the-football or juke a linebacker out of his Under Armour can attest.

But his knee lasted less than a quarter before he crumpled to the turf while trying to evade a tackler.

Several orthopedic surgeons said Monday that it’s doubtful any athlete with a torn ACL could withstand the torques, twists and tackles of football, much less a running quarterback as athletic as Dixon. And by choosing to play so soon after tearing his ACL, Dixon risked injuring other parts of his knee, doctors say.

“If you want to do twisting, turning, stopping sports, that dog’s not going to hunt,” said Dr. Tom Vangsness,, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. “You’re going to stop or pivot, and get rotational instability on that knee, and you’re going to go down.”

By playing with a torn ACL, Dixon was in danger of hurting other parts of his knee, particularly the meniscus tissue and articular cartilage, the surgeons said.

Torn meniscus tissues can sometimes be repaired, and sometimes not, said Dr. Christopher Wahl, assistant professor in the University of Washington’s Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Irreparable tears of the meniscus can increase the risk of arthritis in the knee down the road, he said.

I'd prefer to face Volek but Rivers has never impressed me much. Hopefully Gates is out or a non factor, he and the RB (both Tomlinson and Turner) are the only skill guys SD has that impress me. Jackson has been hot but the last 1 1/2 games is a small sample size.

Re: Butch Stearns: Rivers has torn ACL [mergedx2]

We should probably change the thread title, because anyone who just sees the title would likely assume he's either not playing or he's the toughest SOB in america, including Mike Ditka. "Give it a go" and "ACL" are generally not words seen in the same sentence.

this is an example of football fans who don't know anything at all

LT asked rivers if they said he could return to the game, PR said no

LT was pissed cause he thought PR was their best chance of winning the game

this is why there is a section of every fanbase who is ******ed....because people like to make up **** without facts, like this bad new england fan has done right here

the good new england fans know the real deal, not the ******ed ones (san diego has their own section of ******ed fans as well...as does indy and every other fanbase)

rivers didn't impress you last year in the playoffs when he helped have an 8 point lead late on NE, that the defense fumbled away?

or he didn't impress you sunday when he had a better game than peyton?

why can't the good new england fans show up here instead of the ones who lie constantly?

Yea, I partially tore my meniscus and I was OOC for 3 weeks.

Re: Butch Stearns: Rivers has torn ACL [mergedx2]

Rivers is more like Manning, Brady, Favre, or any other pure pocket passer

that could be the first time i've seen all those names together at once

Re: Butch Stearns: Rivers has torn ACL [mergedx2]

Dennis Dixon is the next VY or Vick. He plays with his legs and the threat of running through the spread and option offense.

Rivers is more like Manning, Brady, Favre, or any other pure pocket passer, the offense doesn't rely on option passes or scrambling to move the chains.

Two completely different situations, and our O-line is playing fantastic right now.

Unless Philip Rivers is playing a sport that doesn't require twisting and turning, he's going to be putting himself at risk on Sunday. I think a 100% Billy Volek is better than a 60% Philip Rivers.

This is an advantage for the Chargers.

volek actually has a better arm than PR IMO, brady has a much better arm than rivers IMO

but it's not about the arm, it's about winning games and leading your team

brady does it, rivers does it

brady's just done it alot better in the playoffs than rivers has, and he's looked less shaky in his career even earlier in his career

but for people to say rivers never impressed them, that's just plain ******ed

if you want to act like rivers is crap because he has a bad game or a few, then turn that light on brady as well who also has had some bad games or a few.

blaming rivers for the loss last playoffs to NE is about the same as blaming brady for the loss at indy the week after

ie it's ******ed

WOW!!!! where do you guys get this stuff. He did not get in his face he was upset and a little shocked that he was out too. But it was not intended at Rivers. It was just like a "Damn now your out too"

You guys are the best team in football have not lost a game have been to 5 out of the last 7 AFCCG 3 rings thats not enough!!!! You need these stories. Rivers is a cry baby, Igor has no respect,LT is a sore looser blah blah blah. Enjoy the ride and buy you tickets to Arizona today!!! We are no threat to you guys.

If the Patriots methods of preparation result in success, why change them? If that's what they need to win games, then they should do it. If not practicing all week would result in a win, then I'd be all for it. Whatever works.

I don't think it's unfair for anyone to say that Rivers has been inconsistent over his brief career. Even as a Pats fan, I'm impressed by his talent, but you can't deny that from time to time he has not looked great at all.

I also think it's foolish for any Pats fan to say that they'd rather face a healthy Rivers than a healthy Volek, since there's no question (at least to me) that Rivers is more talented.

On a sprained MCL? Who knows.

Re: Butch Stearns: Rivers has torn ACL [mergedx2]

Comments like that backup what Shaun Phillips said.
New England fans are by far the most arrogant, biased, and nastiest in the NFL. They absolutely refuse to recognize greatness outside the little world they live in.

You wouldn't know what it's like to be among greatness. 17-0 is f'n great. No one else is 17-0. Therefore, there is no greatness to be recognized "outside the little world we live in".

[bad pats fans]"brady sucks, he's never won any games in the nfl , it's always the rest of the team not him, and all of his losses are only because of brady choking arghhhhhhhhhh hiccup"[/bad pats fans]

that's some of you , looking in a mirror

for the good NE fans i am happy for them

but for people like you, you're just the bad element along for that ride

and the chargers have that bad element too

but you types aren't even real football fans

That makes a whole lot of sense....?

You're absolutely right. I spend 12 Sunday per year out at Gillette Stadium supporting my favorite team, but that doesn't make me a "real football fan".
