This legislation is designed specifically for Fred Phelps and crew, personally it looks unconstitutional, however I agree they need to be stopped. Somehow the outcome will be blamed on the Courts, anyways do not understand why they don't figure out who funds this crew and go after their assets. This is the strategy used by the Southern Poverty Leadership Center, when they went after the NAZI's in Idaho... there is obviously some money here as no one seems to work and they travel all over the country.

BTW Harry boy this was reported on CBS news, interesting eh!!!

At the White House, Bush signed the "Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act," passed by Congress largely in response to the activities of a Kansas church group that has staged protests at military funerals around the country, claiming the deaths symbolized God's anger at U.S. tolerance of homosexuals.

The new law bars protests within 300 feet of the entrance of a national cemetery and within 150 feet of a road into the cemetery. This restriction applies an hour before until an hour after a funeral. Those violating the act would face up to a $100,000 fine and up to a year in prison.

Monday's observance at Arlington National Cemetery was not a funeral, so demonstrators were free to speak their minds at the site.

    And several did.

A handful of protesters from an anti-gay group stood across a four-lane highway from a conservative group supporting the troops.

    #15 Jersey

Why don't we just support the bikers who show up to prevent the anti-gay groups from demonstrating. They seemed like they were doing a "heck of a job".

Excellent piece of legislature ... The rights to assemble and free speech are maintained, as it doesn't stop either, just says "not here".
