RE THe stadium: I'm pretty sure that stadium was constructed around the same time and designed by the same architect...I can't remember exactly, but I've been under that impression for all these years.

yes, i remember that being talked about back then how similar they were. i think Rich Stadium was finished the follwing year, and built much better.

But Arrowhead topped them both, built in 1971, its still terrific today.

Ralph Wilson Stadium is much, much larger than either Foxboro stadium or Gillette. Their current capacity is 73,967 and it was originally 80k. They actually have real seats too.

The similarities are both stadiums were closer to the field than the current Gillette which gives more sideline space between the field and the stands. Also, both stadiums had their "cheap" seats far closer to the field. My season tickets were in the 300 section in the old Foxboro stadium. The seats that are the same distance from the field today are the club seats. If I had the same seats in Gilette, not only would I be behind the club seats, but also above to levels of luxary boxes. That is a big reason why Gillette is far quieter than Foxboro Stadium was. The fans are far away from the field.

Buffalo's Stadium was just a little nicer than Our Old Stadium but the crowds were very similar. The passion in Buffalo was always good. There are many similarities.

They were. They were built by the same company, but I think a bit more was spent on, then, Rich Stadium and its since been renovated and improved as well.

I am good friends with a Buffalo fan and their ticket prices are much lower than ours. Based on my conversations with her I think the game day experience there is much like the old Foxboro Stadium experience. The new stadium here is obviously much nicer, but there are things I miss about the old place. In fact quite a bit.

Re: Buffalo crowd / Foxboro Stadium crowd

How is it not true? Boston is a wealthier area than Buffalo and the tickets are the most expensive in the league. The Pats success means that the hot ticket for casual fans in NE is the Pats. Almost everyone I know who is a non-season ticket holder that goes to games is someone whose connections got them tickets.

I'm not saying that ALL of the fans are white collar, I'm saying that the difference between Buffalo and NE games is the percentage of white collar crowd members that tend to be less passionate.

I've been a Patriots season ticket holder since 1994, and have attended a half-dozen Pats-Bills games in Buffalo. I can tell you there's no significant difference. The only real difference is the layout of the two stadiums, but half the time the Bills' stadium isn't even full.

There are plenty of tickets to be had for Pats game on ticketmaster, stubhub and the ticketexchange. The only "white collar" people at Gillette sit in the boxes and club seats. The remaining 60,000 fans are in the stands.

As much as I loved the old place it was a dump with a capital D. Is there another stadium in the world that had a chain link fence (like an airline check in) outside of the bathrooms with a couple of State Troopers at the exit?

Ralph Wilson stadium has the lower bowl below ground level. That helps keep in the noise.

Re: Buffalo crowd / Foxboro Stadium crowd

I'm certainly not going to argue that the old Pats stadium didn't suck. I still think there's probably a higher percentage of white collar fans at Pats games than other venues.

Re: Buffalo crowd / Foxboro Stadium crowd

If Kraft just filled in the 200 bowl Gillette would be an awesome stadium and I think it would hold in noise awesome. instead so many would be great seats are wasted as open space and in many ways it is a terrible stadium because of it. If they added say 7000 seats by filling in the lower bowl then around 60000 of the 75000 seats would be right on the field and both ends would be filled and it would be really loud with many seats up close.

But The whole concept of Gillette is dumb. Who the frig wants open spaces in a stadium? Like it is somehow special that you can order fries and still see the game. What a stupid idea. There are all these akward open spaces in the 200 bowl meanwhile the 300 level is so high.

I have no problem with the 300 level being high if you want a 75000+ seat stadium, but when you build that high in a 69000 seat stadium and then leave all these potentially great seats as empty spaces it just makes no sense.

Then they leave one end completely open so they can have a dumb light house, again wasting thousands of good seats while putting other seats way too high up.

I love the Krafts but my honest opinion is they did an awful job designign Gillette. How do you design a stadium in this day and age and not consider acoustics? I still dont think Gillette is terrible for acoustics but it should have been one of the focal points of the design. WHen they finish the job and add the 5000-7000 seats they should have put in but left out of the 200 bowl it wil be a great stadium. Until then it is just a poor failed concept.

Re: Buffalo crowd / Foxboro Stadium crowd

Actually, the titans stadium is similar in design. The ends are open, and yes, you can see the game while buying fries.lol. but the main difference in the stadiums is how far the seats are from the sideline. Someone in another thread mentioned that they have the seats further back in gillette because of the soccar games. I know nothing about soccar, and I dont know that its true about the design, but I do know the seats are further away than at the titans stadium. I also have witnessed on many occasions, its ALOT louder at their stadium than at gillette. So, I don't think the endzone design has much to do with it.
