Brown Breaks With GOP To Support Jobs Bill - Money News Story - KMGH Denver

WASHINGTON -- The Senate's newest member said he will break ranks Monday with fellow Republicans and support a Democratic jobs bill in an important procedural vote.

The vote of Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown gets Democrats closer to the 60 they would need to end debate and vote on passage of the bill. They need one more Republican vote because Democrat Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey is expected to be absent because he is ill.

Snowe, Collins, and Voinivich are also supporting the bill. Interesting to see as a reaction to the tea party, a more moderate wing of the Republican Party rise again. Finally, some Republicans are showing guts and breaking with the groupthink that dominates the Party.

It goes on to say Reid's bill is far smaller than Bam's 862B stimulus and smaller than the rival bill put forth earlier this month.

One thing's for sure, anyone who drives in MA knows the potholes and heaves are Nasty; it would be so nice to see some of all that repaired:eek:

I'm glad he stepped out of his party line and voted for something he believes will help this state. PS: come spring/summer I'll be b*****g about road closures and construction delays:D

YEAH...who needs a JOBS bill anyway?

whats happening to our country when elected officials are passing bills to try and create liberal things like 'JOBS'...shame on them!

people need to pull THEMSELVES up, and create their OWN jobs, not have the government stop fillibustering and pass laws....

Here is an idea, get some lemons, squeeze them...add water and sugar and sell it by the side of teh road...BAM...you now have a job!

That's OK, we only need him to be a speed bump until November when more real Republicans come to the country's rescue.

We still have about half a trillion of unspent stimulus money, that was supposed to be for, remember, shovel ready JOBS. Guess that didn't work too well.

So bi-partinship is something The Tea Party and The Republicans are all about as long as it's not your guys doing the bi-parting?

Good for Brown - if only one person is strong enough and intelligent enough to reach across the aisle for the good of America perhaps others will follow.

Good for Brown again - and good for the people who voted for him - they got "change" we can believe in.

I have no problem with real bi-partisanship but anyone who thinks that's just a word, as opposed to a goal, for the obamans is either delusional or lying to himself. There is no bi-partisanship in the obama White House and anyone on the other side who tries for it will end up just getting his ass kicked.

    A couple of points....

I thought the Stimulus was an infrastructure bill? Why the need for this then?

From what I've read, this bill is tax incentives for businesses who hire anyone who's unemployed, with some added cash for road projects. The total value is $15 Billion, but tax credits are not a direct cost, so the paper value would seem to be less.

Brown said from day 1 that he was an independent vote, and not a party line guy. I'm not sure why people are surprised by his decision to vote what he thinks makes the most sense. Personally, I don't think the gubmit should be spending any money it doesn't have.

Actually, it has, to the tune of 1.2-1.8 million jobs, and the CBO expects it to top out at 2.5 million when all is said and done.

Anyway, love to hear all the rationalizations re: Scott Brown. I'm sure he's a (relatively) smart dude, and if he has aspirations to remain in the US Senate, he'll have to be the Republicans' Ben Nelson.

Good for him, he ran as an independent voice, he told party leadership he would be voting his conscience, and he's following through on what he believes is a good bill. We could use a lot more in Congress that vote based on a bill's merits rather than what the leadership tells them to do.

Do you believe your own lies? Or do you just believe the garbage Robert Gibbs feeds you?

Brown is already proven he will be a far better senator than Martha Coakley.

I do not believe anyone should vote the party line.

The good of America should come first, not the democrat or republican
    party.

For all we know... he may have done something unheard of on capital hill.

He may have read the jobs bill.

Damned if does...damned if he doesn't.

No matter what he does or how he votes the snipers are gunning for him for doing the most embarrassing thing to Democrats since 1994.
