I just heard on the radio, the Broncos didn't file the Dumervil restructured contract in time and were forced to cut him because they would have to pay him his bonus. Ooops.

What?! RT @mikeklis: Hold on, contract not filed in time. Elvis Dumervil has been officially released"

If this is accurate you can bet he won't see 8m on the market like he was about to get from Denver.

Not sure if Dumervil fits here, but:

The Broncos go from one of the best moves in free agency on Wednesday to one of the most boneheaded moves of any offseason ever today.

Pick him up...or at least drive the price up on Denver!

    Hahahah, awesome ... oops.

Seriously, how do professional organizations screw something like that up so badly?

So, they'll re-work the contract and he'll sign tomorrow, unless Dumervil really wants to screw Denver.

I knew you were serious. RT @mikeklis: I'm serious. Contract was not filed by 1:59 p.m. Dumervil informed Broncos taking the deal at 1:25."

    ...their fax break?

If someone calls him up and offers $10M per, who knows. And even if not, there could be cap ramifications (accelerating the pro-rated signing bonus, etc.) that could torch their cap room and leave them unable to re-sign him, right? I don't know the specifics of his contract, so I can't really say, but I don't think it's necessarily that simple of a fix.

Maybe they can convert one of their extra slot WR's to a pass rusher.

Is Haywood Sullivan running that team?

It's not as easy as signing tomorrow. All of the remaining guaranteed money on his contract just hit Denver's cap. Spotrac has that at $4.8M, 2/3 of which is new dead money.

Sign Freeney before he hears the news so the Broncos are really screwed. I don't know if Dumervil is going to be so accommodating to re-sign with the Broncos.

What's his dead hit for this year? Anyone know?

I agree. I hadn't considered the accelerate bonus money.
