Daboll did a pretty nice job with the WRs down the stretch.

Not a huge loss, I think he was a good coach, that did not get alot of credit for his development on the recievers.. Not good, hate coaches going to the Jets..

Considering he helped out McDaniels with personnel switches in the game this could be a potential problem. Not to mention it could prove to be a hiccup in the develop (another one, at least) of Chad Jackson because of continuity. It could also force a move at OC or be a nice change to the WR corps. Who knows? I don't like it pretty much because it will be yet more fodder for the fools at ESPN who are still claiming there is a feud between BB and Mangini, that BB is classless and his actions are unwarranted. Whatever.

really depends how much BB saw this coming. if he he saw it early, he wouldve had a plan. otherwise it is somewhat of a loss considering he goes to the rivals.

    Disable Jersey

Unless he goes to be a co-ordinator, it can't be a promotion. What's more, the Patriots could, presumably, have said "no" (unless he's coming to the end of his contract). Not exactly a dagger to the heart, but not encouraging.

Daboll is a coach - he would have been fired, not released, and there was no word of him getting fired, nor any probable motive.

There's no way in hell of knowing his contract status.

Schotenheimer is the OC, so it has to be a lateral move.... I just think he was not given enough credit. Im not sure, but it had to be more mula...

But that begs the question . . . why would the FO allow this (unless his contract had expired)? They're certainly under no obligation to do so.

Well you don't want unhappy coaches. You have to assume that either :

    - Belichick was ambivalent about him and didn't care if he stayed or not
    - Daboll was unhappy for some reason, professional or personal, and would have been unhappy staying.

I'm not happy about this but we'll move on.

Sometimes guys get blocked - it was reportedly between Daboll and McDaniels when Charlie left, and Josh (who Daboll recruited) got the gig. Could be BB doesn't see him moving up or simply didn't have a means to move him up within this coaching staff. If Brian wants a coordinators job he may have had to leave the nest to get a shot at one. Belichick understands that guys need to develop. He was increasingly concerned that RAC and Charlie were overqualified (and a little unhappy professionally) by 2003-04 as coordinators, and he worried he'd lose younger guys as a result because their advancement was blocked here by them according to Holley in Patriots Reign. He had to move around and at times break away to get where he is too.

I wonder if Daboll is one of the staff Mangini wanted to take with him when he first left. Also, wasn't there some talk about Daboll being considered for offensive coordinator when Weiss first left?

Maybe Troy Brown handles some coaching duties this year in a split role - like WR/DB/WR Coach/DB Coach/etc/etc

We really have no way of knowing how good a job he was doing. We do know that between Bethel Johnson and Chad Jackson, the only two high draft pick WR's we have drafted since Deion, neither really panned out (not that the book is closed on Chad yet).
