Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

And 1+1=3... Talk about frigging conjecture on your part. WOW..

The fact that they added Crumpler, Gonzalez, Gronkowski, Holt and Price says that they AREN'T going to follow the same approach as last year REGARDLESS of whether they have Moss or not. And keeping Moss doesn't lead to anything to do with the defense.

You're all over the place with this.

DaBruinz, is it at all possible for you to have a civil discussion without berating posters or belittling them? I enjoy the insights and the knowledge you bring to the forum, but why do you have to break out in hives every time someone disagrees or takes a different point of view?

I don't necessarily disagree with this. The entire source of my idea was long-term gains. I think that having the draft pick asset you gain from a Moss trade, and having a solid WR corps with Welker-Edelman-Tate-Price for years to come is an appealing proposition at the expense of a short term loss (Moss). The fact of the matter is - and MoLewis touched on this - Brady doesn't need Moss to be good. We saw six or seven years ago that he can be an elite quarterback just throwing to the open receiver (as long as they can catch the ball; 2006 proved what happens if they can't). It may not have the glamour of the 2007 offense, but it's still pretty damn effective, and as I have argued, probably more effective when defenses force you to go to second, third, and fourth options. Again, not having Moss in the short term is obviously not an upgrade, but I think balancing long and short term needs is more important.

Tom Brady: Career Stats

The last 2 of Brady's seasons have been his best in virtually every statistical category. The stat that sticks out the most is his plays of 40+ yards. They are drastically bigger than previous years (only once in 2004 did he hit double digits with 10). Randy Moss accounts for 9 of the 15 in 2007 and 7 of the 12 in 2009. Randy is a huge asset to our offense. I'd draw the coorelation to Wes's numbers but that's already been hit on.
Now to argue against myself...

Stats since 01:*SB year*/^Moss year^
Rank in Points scored per game/Points allowed per game
*2001: #6(23.2)/#6(17)
2002: #10(23.8)/#17(21.6)
*2003: #12(21.8)/#1(14.9)
*2004: #4(27.3)/T#2(16.2)
2005: #10(23.7)/#17(21.1)
2006: #7(24.1)/#2(14.8)
^*2007: #1(36.8)/#4(17.1)
^2008: #8(25.6)/#8(19.3)
^2009: #6(26.7)/#5(17.8)

Our best 5 defensive years are 2006, 2003*, 2004*, 2001*, 2007*^. Of those years, we won 3 super bowls, lost 1 super bowl (because of our defense) and lost 1 afc championship game (because of our defense).
Our best 5 offensive years are 2007*^, 2004*, 2009^, 2008^, 2006. That comes with all 3 Moss years, even the one without Brady! Unfortunately that group only has 1 ring, and the 2 losses previously mentioned.

So I guess I'm saying Moss helps the offense, and makes Brady better, but unless our defense steps up we won't win when it counts.

We can have our cake and eat at least a bite or two of it with Moss. Rather than trade him this year for another 2011 pick and risk an unstable WR corps, the Pats can keep him this season gaining the benefit of Randy's deep threat play in a contract showcase season. When Randy leaves in 2011, hopefully for a big deal, Pats will get a 2011 comp pick, maybe a 3rd, certainly a 4th. Why wouldn't BB's thinking compare the trade pick vs having Randy's contributions AND a comp pick?

I think the least supported assumption in this thread is that Moss won't be resigning right here next year. The fact that Moss stated he doesnt know if he is in the plans infers that he wants to be in the plans (and by the way is nothing more than trying to send a message through the media) and the Patriots have done nothing to indicate they don't want him back, as they have handled him just like all other players in his contract status.
Moss 2011 in not news yet, nothing has happened to give any indication what to expect.

FWIW, Paul Perillo said on PFW in Progress today that Bert Breer was escorted off the field by team officials after he tweeted during practice.

Perillo also said Mike Reiss was "catching flak" from ESPN for not reporting the story first, even though he was following the rules.

Not a smart move by Bert.

Peer pressure to break news in the internet and now social networking age...it's what's ruined sports reporting in the last decade. I bet it killed him (and a lot of them caught flack) for Rappaport getting the Moss interview.

I see the future...another Onion article like the one about BB's desert challenge treatment of draft pick rookies but this one about what happpens to the Breers of the world.

Couldn't get through all the arguing in this thread but was there any word on how Welker felt the next day or was he seen on the field after his first day?

Any updates on how Welker's knee felt?

1) Rapoport tweeted that it was not Welker's first OTA.

2) This was the only OTA open to the media this week. We have no way of knowing whether or not he was on the field the day after.

3) He didn't talk to the media. We have no way of knowing how his knee felt.

Thank you very much kind sir.

Here's the video from NFL.com. The newspaper description of him running routes at 75% speed underplays how impressive it is.
